Sources told ESPN that Barcelona believes Luis Díaz is an ideal candidate to strengthen the offense next season, but the Spanish champions are also evaluating other options as it is difficult to sign Colombia International International from Liverpool.
Díaz, 28, has two years to sign a contract with Liverpool, which expires in 2027, but he suggests he will be willing to extend his stay at Premier League clubs earlier this month.
However, Barcelona continues to explore the striker's move, and ESPN revealed last week that the Catalan club hopes to sign a winger, centre-back and defender this summer.
Sports director Deco also recently told ESPN that “there is a sudden dependency on Raphinha and Lamine Yamal”, adding that when the transfer window opens, people want to add depth in the forward position.
Sources told ESPN that 28-year-old Díaz is the best player Barça is looking for because he can adapt to a variety of roles.
Forward Robert Lewandowski at 37 August, Díaz can sometimes help relieve the burden on Polish international - he sometimes plays for Liverpool - he will also enable coach Hansi Flick to spin Raphinha and Yamal.
Díaz, who scored 17 goals this season, will also add more experience to the younger team, but sources say Barcelona's financial situation will determine whether they can move for the former Porto or focus on more affordable options.
Barcelona has shown interest in Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and sports club's Nico Williams in the past, with sources last week saying no name stands out on the table at this stage.
Rashford was an option in January, with Williams’ release clause of €58 million ($65.75 million) before he joined Aston Villa on loan, which was the goal last summer to settle in Dani Olmo for Barça.
Barcelona President Joan Laporta spoke optimistically about the club's financial situation this week.
However, they are still waiting for Laliga's recognition of certain deals, including the sale of VIP seats on Spotify Camp Nou, and they hope they will play home again next season in two years at the Olympic stadium, while renovation work has been carried out.
Once this situation is resolved, coupled with any elimination, Barcelona will have a better understanding of what business they can do this summer, but people admit that negotiations with Liverpool will not be direct.
