Louisville's Ary Borges wins 3-game ban to push referees

Racing Louisville Football Club midfielder Ary Borges has been suspended for three games after the latest game to launch the center referee.

Brazil international Borges has played a game over the weekend after receiving a red card at the end of the 3-3 match against Portland Thorns on April 27.

The game features 41 fouls, a new NWSL record.

The National Women's Football League announced on Monday that its disciplinary committee sentenced three additional sentences after reviewing the dispute, which was considered "major game misconduct."

"The NWSL has a zero tolerance policy for abuse of officials and will continue to maintain the integrity of the game and the expectations of all players, coaches and club staff," the league said in a statement.

Portland scored from free throw percentage with a 3-3 draw in the 10th minute of the second half stop time.

Louisville led 3-1 in the first half and then scored free throws every half of the downtime.

The Thorns' equalizer is in the order of downtime, with referee Corbyn May initially calling the foul Portland defender Reyna Reyes, but turned the sting's call after video review showed Louisville forward Emma Sears stepped on Reyes' feet.

Racing Louisville assistant coach Sergio González was also popped up after a second fine.

After the game, Borges posted a story to her Instagram account calling for May's referee to be "shameful".

"On this league level, it is unacceptable for someone to direct the game like today," Borges wrote.

After the game, Thorny midfielder and Canadian captain Jessie Fleming sighed at the referee and opponent.

"I do think the game keeps happening in this league," Fleming said. "I think it's awkward. It changes the game. It's awkward. It's awkward. I think it's awkward for the league, and I think it's awkward for Louisville as a club.

“For us as players, we were very frustrated, so I think I’m proud that we were able to find a way to come back from it and get points from the game. Honestly, maybe – if not one of the most frustrating games, I used to be a player.

"So, I think the league needs to be looked at. I think Louisville should be embarrassing."

Borges posted Instagram following Fleming's comments.

"For those who have been subjected to two suspicious penalties, the entire game throws themselves into and around the free throw box, take a moment to reflect rather than talk about my team," Borges wrote.

On Monday, the NWSL Discipline Committee also issued another game ban on Washington spiritual coach Jonatan Giráldez, whose action lost 3-0 to NJ/NY Gotham FC on April 26.

Giráldez was expelled from the match during the game's downtime. He was suspended on Friday in Washington's 4-3 loss to Angel City Football Club.

The NWSL Discipline Committee has issued an additional suspension, with Giráldez going to play against Chicago Stars FC on Saturday as he “failed to exit the field as needed” after his shot.
