
According to Comscore, Disney's live action "Lilo & Stitch" and Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossion-Imbiss-Disther-the The The The The Diens" dominated the box office in the UK and Ireland, bringing the market to £109.1 million ($147.7 million), representing a 50% increase in the same period last year.
The restart took the first place in the theater just two weeks later for $37.4 million, already surpassing the $17.7 million lifetime total of the original animated film in 2002. The performance made it the third highest-grossing release in the territory in 2025, lagging only behind "Minecraft Movies" ($76.4 million) and "Bridge Jones: Bridge Jones: Mad the Boy" ($62.7 million).
The latest “Lilo & Stitch” also outperforms Disney’s other recent live-action remakes, including this year’s “Snow White” ($15.6 million), as well as previous efforts such as “Dumbo” ($34 million) in 2019 and “The Little Mermeraid” ($371.1 million) in 2023.
"Task: Impossible - The Last Estimate" finished second with $26 million this month, positioning it as the best-paid highest of the year. The latest work of the action franchise has become the fourth highest-grossing UK "Task: Impossible" movie, behind only "Death Estimate Part One" ($36 million), "Fallout" ($33 million) and "Rogue Nation" ($28.7 million). The performance also marked Cruise's seventh best theatrical performance on the territory.
Marvel's "Thunderbolts*" ranked in the top three with a price of $21.7 million, surpassing the lifetime totals of "Eternals" ($20 million), "X-Men" ($20.2 million) and "X-Men: First Class" ($20.3 million). The superhero ensemble piece is on Captain America: Brave New World, which received $24.4 million after its release in February.
The horror franchise "Ultimate Destination: Bloodline" took fourth place with $13.4 million, the third highest box office entry in the series, behind only "Ultimate Destination" ($17.3 million) and the original "Ultimate Destination" ($14.1 million).
Ryan Coogler's vampire thriller Sinners added $9.5 million in its retention month to $21.2 million, establishing it as Michael B.
The new release Karate Boy: Legend opened for $4.2 million, while Salt Road also debuted last weekend with revenue of $3.9 million. "Salt Road" is currently the fifth highest movie of the year, lagging behind "March Fans" ($4.1 million).
Wes Anderson's Phoenician Spine ranked ninth for $3 million, making it the seventh highest film on the director, surpassing "Moonrise Kingdom" ($2.7 million). The documentary "Oceans with David Attenborough" ranked in the top 10 for $1.9 million.
May's results will help push the box office to 20% in 2024 and 8% ahead of 2023.
June’s releases include “Ballerina” of the John Wick universe, the live performance “How to Train Your Dragon” adaptation, “28 Years After,” by Danny Boyle, “Elio” by Pixar, Brad Pitt’s racing epic “F1 The Movie,” and the expected sequel “M3GAN 2.0.”
