Tim Wilson looks to be planning to retake his inside Melbourne seat from the turquoise independent Zoe Daniel in a picky game, which will make the liberals flash after the elimination of election night.
Antony Green, an election analyst for ABC, called Goldstein for Wilson Tuesday afternoon after former congressmen took the lead in the postal voting count.
As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wilson led Daniel with less than a thousand votes, 80% of which were counted. There is still a need to process about 5,000 postal ballots along with absentee ballots, which is usually beneficial to the Liberals.
Wilson's lead is expected to grow as postal voting is calculated, but Daniel will wait for the final result.
"I will wait for further calculations out of respect for my censors and the democratic process. It seems wise to have hundreds of people profits and the remaining votes," Daniel said in a statement.
“Again, I’m grateful to everyone who supported me in many ways during the campaign and in the vote.”
Daniel claimed the victory shortly after starting the filtering Saturday night, but later admitted that the results were "apparently close" and that it would take several days to get confirmed.
If Daniel's losses at Goldstein are confirmed, it will mark the first reversal of the teal-green independent gains in the 2022 federal election.
The former ABC journalist held Goldstein at a 3.3% priority margin after winning a 34.5% primary. Wilson suffered a 12% stake in the 2022 election, partly attributed to the popularity of former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
Since its founding in 1984, the Liberal Party has held Goldstein.
In the seats near Kooyong, independent Monique Ryan was also threatened after Liberal challenger Amelia Hamer narrowed his lead by postal voting.
When Daniel and Ryan's seats were closely watched, their teal colleagues at Curtin, Mackellar, Warringah and Wentworth all worked in their favor.

In the seat owned by Bradfield's liberals, the battle between independence challenger Nicolette Boele and liberal Gisele Kapterian fell on the wire.
Wilson's team remained optimistic about his return to Canberra after being ousted by Daniel in the 2022 federal election.
Wilson's return to the opposition's House of Commons bench will be seen as a push for the election heavy blow under Peter Dutton.
The moderate liberal, who first entered the federal parliament in 2016, is a powerful advocate of marriage equality, used his debut to tell the emotional promise of “leadership change.”
During the campaign, Wilson faced criticism for an ad featuring "Tradie" that shares incredible similarities with a freelance campaigner on his team.
