A member of the progressive “squad” of the House is restoring legislation aimed at paying slavery to black Americans.
D-Pa. Rep. Summer Lee re-issued a resolution Thursday that, if passed, could provide the federal government with descendants of enslaved people brought to the United States from Africa.
Former Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo. , her main figure in 2024 lost to a more modest Democrat who introduced the compensation bill in the last Congress. Bush's bill, announced in May 2023, requires $14 trillion to be paid for slavery descendants in the United States, but nothing is there.
"We said to other parts of the United States: If you do want to say yourself, you can't look away. You won't be able to back down. You can't back down the need, because until repairs, there will be no justice. In places without justice, there will be no justice, we will continue to fight. We won't go anywhere. And Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., in Lee's announcement.

Pressley reintroduces a compensation bill this year for Black History Month, and Sen. Cory Booker, DN.J., rejected “an unprecedented blow against the Trump administration’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiative.”
House Dems reintroduces compensation legislation: "We refuse to remain silent"
Pressley added Thursday: "Trump's policy is nothing more than an anti-black policy for steroids.
Tlaib added: "Reparation is a necessary step for our country to move towards true equity and a more just future. Congress will have the opportunity to face our country's racist slavery and the racist history of white supremacy. We must provide responsibility to the descendants of enslaved black families."
This is an effort made by progressive Democrats every year, but there is little chance of passing.
For the 119th Congress, this is controlled by Republicans, and President Donald Trump is also in the White House.

A longtime Republican lawmaker, R-Texas, chairman of the Housing Science Committee, even introduced legislation earlier this year to obtain federal funds from state and local jurisdictions to develop compensation policies.
"We know there will be challenges," Lee said Thursday.
But Lee sent a signal on Wednesday that she would not stop her for a long time.
Lee told Fox News: "When we consider the debts our country owes … the Trump administration and the Republican Party have talked a lot about repaying debts. This is one of them."

Progressives in Pennsylvania believe that the U.S. government has set up policies that intentionally violate Black Americans.

"They are not theoretical, but they are the dangers of government policies, practices and laws. There are some real laws in this book that cause systemic shortcomings. They create systemic advantages for others. So until you correct this, you can never gain an equal footing."
