Sources from ESPN confirmed that Los Angeles Football Club will face to face at the BMO Stadium in LAFC on May 31 to replace the rights of the 32-team club club World Cup clubs to be held in the United States next month.
Mexican side Leon finally lost the legal match against FIFA on Tuesday, officially excluding FIFA's multi-club ownership rules by the French World Cup.
The Court of Arbitration for Sports said its judge rejected Leon's attempt to be removed from the game by FIFA for being in the same ownership organization Pachuca as another club's World Cup entry.
Club Leon initially won a spot in the international championships after winning the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League.
"All appeals are combined into a single CAS case, which was heard on May 5, 2025 at the CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland," Cas said in a statement. "The CAS team has issued a surgical ruling that dismisses three appeals and ruled that Pachuca and ClubLeón failed to meet the criteria regarding ownership of multiple clubs in the FIFA World Cup 2025 FIFA World Cup Club Regulation (Article 10.1).
Five months after FIFA let León compete in Miami, he had a legal dispute in Switzerland despite pending multi-club ownership issues.
"This sentence is harsh, the competitors have a very influential influence, stressful and high stakes," the club Leon said in a statement. "But those who suffer the most in the process are our people: fans and football players deserve respect from an organization dedicated to promoting sports. But from the outset, in this case, there is no sporting principle."
Grupo Pachuca’s club DeFútbol Pachuca is still cleared after securing a position to win the 2024 CONCACAF Champions League.
The playoff winner between LAFC and América will receive nearly $10 million from the club's World Cup bonus fund. The date and position of the playoffs were first reported by Givemesport.
The competition will begin on June 14.
"FIFA welcomes the decision made by the Court of Arbitration against Sports (CAS), rejecting appeals from CF Pachuca, León and Asociación Ligaliga deportiva alajuelense," FIFA said in a statement.
“Complied with applicable match regulations, FIFA has decided to pass the FIFA Club (runner-in-chief of the 20233333 COMCACAF Champions League) and the Club’s América (in the FIFA Club Club Confersion cups cups of 2024 Clubs eligible for the FIFA Club 2025 World Cup).
“The winners will automatically qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and will serve as the Leon Club position in Group D.”
The winner of the match will face Chelsea in Atlanta on June 16, then face Esperance from Tunisia in Nashville and Brazilian Flamengo province in Orlando.
