As a former fifth-round draft pick, Kyren Williams exceeded all expectations, earning a total of 31 touchdowns in the past two seasons alone. He has become a main player in the Los Angeles Rams, and few people will see a few when he ranks No. 164 from Notre Dame in 2022.
Williams has entered the final year of his rookie contract, which means he will be a free agent in 2026 if there is no trade before next March. The Rams and Williams camp talked about the potential delay, sitting at the annual league meeting this spring to discuss a deal, but we are now heading into May, and the only change is that Los Angeles drafted the run (Jarquez Hunter) in the fourth round.
Although Williams is still making rookie deals, he remains optimistic about reaching a profitable contract at some point. He told the Los Angeles Times' Gary Klein that he "feels good" about it.
"I know it will happen over time," Williams said at a charity event last week. "I'm happy to do that so I can take care of my family and the loved ones who helped me get here. I've always trusted God. Whether it's happening now or this season, I know that this will eventually happen.
"So, time will tell. I just know that I have to do what I need to do every day to make sure it really works in my favor."
The Rams are full of talent when running, a group led by Williams on the depth chart. Blake Corum enters his second year after winning a third-round pick in 2024. Hunter is in his fourth round this year and can stand out from the two players this season as a quick, changed motorsport.
Williams has become an integral part of the offense, not only the 544-bulls of the hour-long bulls, but also the blockade when Matthew Stafford withdraws the past. He did everything for the rams and they wanted to keep him.
It only boils down to price, because there seems to be a big gap between the Ram willing to pay him and what he is looking for.
"Obviously, he has a year left in his contract, so we'll see if something can be done," Sean McVay said in April. "But he knows how important he is to us. In terms of closing the gap, we're going to see how far we have to go, but he's a very important part of what we want to move forward."
