If confirmed, Noim would be President Donald Trump's fourth pick moving forward in the Senate, joining Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and the incoming Defense Secretary. After Pete Hegseth.

The expected vote shortly after Noem is for Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent, followed by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

The South Dakota governor is expected to receive bipartisan support for her confirmation to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Her nomination came from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) and was approved by a vote of 13-2. Only two Democrats voted against her.

"I was the first governor to send the National Guard to Texas when I was overwhelmed by the unprecedented crisis at the border," Noem told the committee during her confirmation hearing last week.

"If confirmed as Secretary, I will ensure that our outstanding, extraordinary Border Patrol agents have all the tools and resources and support they need to effectively carry out their mission."
