Rosemonde Kouassi had a goal and assist, and the spirit of Washington defeated Chicago 3-2 in the National Women's Football League on Saturday.
Monday's Gift scored a victory goal when he scored Kouassi's pass in the 80th minute.

Elsewhere in the NWSL, Portland Thorns received a late penalty for a 1-1 draw with the San Diego Waves. North Carolina's courage tied with Orlando's Pride 1-1.
That spirit led 1-0 at Seatgeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois, when Chicago ally Ally Schlegel turned kouassi's low cross into his own net in the 31st minute. Five minutes later, the Stars and Julia Grosso's equalizer answered.
Spirit (5-3-0) returned to the lead before halftime. Tara McKeown curled a cross to the back whistle, and Kouassi scored there. This is her first goal in her 14th regular season appearance in the NWSL.
Chicago (1-6-1) beat former spirit player Sam Staab 2-2 to poke a goal in the 54th minute.

Perry fined Thorns very late
Jayden Perry took the free throw deep into downtime, and even in the tide, the visiting thorns were pulled to 10 players.
Kirsten McNabb admitted the fine to Inspur (4-2-2) when he tripped Sam Coffey in the box in the sixth minute of downtime.
Rookie Perry from UCLA stepped up to score his third goal of the season, all from free throw position.
Kimmi Ascanio put the waves 1-0 in the fifth minute. Perle Morroni reached the ball over the box for Ascanio to glance at the header of Portland goalkeeper Bella Bixby, who was five yards away.

Wave guard Kennedy Wesley was given a red card in the 41st minute to foul Olivia Moultrie while San Diego fell a player for the rest of the process.
Despite its player advantage, Inspur has more possession (55%) in the game. However, Portland dominated the number of opportunities and fired 21 shots at the San Diego five.
In the past four games, Waves and Thorns (3-2-4) are now unbeaten.

Prisca Chilufya scored her first NWSL goal to get pride in Cary, North Carolina.
Courage goalkeeper Casey Murphy misjudged the ball's flight and failed to hit Chilufya's loop header during downtime.

North Carolina (2-3-3) took the lead on Felicitas Rauch's goal in the 27th minute. Rauch bounced into the rebound after Orlando goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse and courage forward Manaka Matsukubo saved one-on-one.
Pride (5-2-1) has a season-high 63% ownership since head coach Sean Nahas took over in 2022, while Courage has recorded their lowest share of possession ever (37%). Pride also exceeds the courage of 15-7.
The tie keeps Orlando at the top of the NWSL rankings.
