Texas A&M softball will host a district in the NCAA Championship as the No. 1 seed, and they will host a super zone if they pass the first round of the double-elimination. This is the second consecutive year that Aggies hosted at the University Station.
Last year, Aggies broke into the super area, but they lost to Texas in three games in Austin. The best results for Texas A&M since the 1987 NCAA title were in 2008, when they were still in the Big 12.
This week, Aggies hosted Saint Francis, Marist (4-0 vs. A&M ever) and Freedom (3-1). These are the teams that Aggies’ records are familiar with, but head coach Trisha Ford or her Aggies are not familiar with. The winners of St. Francis and Texas A&M continue to play the winners of Freedom and Marist.
The game begins on Friday and continues until Sunday.
Here is a brief scout report about Aggies' first opponent:
Meeting: Northeast Conference
Record: 26-24, 14-7
Last season: 41-14, 24-0; won fourth place in the Austin area
The team that Aggies is most unfamiliar with is the team they join first.
In his second season with head coach Beth Krysiak, the red lightning struck a second NCAA Championship. Senior infielder Olivia Ulam leads with 10 doubles. Ulam also holds two program records in putters, 450 and 445 in 2022; 2024; she has 373 this season.
The Saint Francis' lineup is somewhat popular, ranking 48th in the country with 1.52 doubles per game. Ulam tied for fifth place on the record with 19 doubles in 1924, tied for 14 this season with junior outfielder Savannah Nash.
In the NEC Conference Championship, St. Francis defeated Fairleigh-Dickenson, Central Connecticut State University and Long Island University 3-0. Sophomore Allie Braly (15-11, 2.41 ERA) provided most of the pitches for the red flash. Until 142 innings, Braally had 67 strikeouts and 16 full games. The next four St. Francis pitchers won a total of 11 games.
St. Francis played four teams throughout the season. Two of the games were Gamecock Classic in February, losing to Virginia and South Carolina. In April action on weekdays, the red flash is ruled by Penn State and Pete.
