King's College's Boys Volleyball Program will leave Polk State University, home to the Class 1A state championship game, and win the first championship in school history.

The Lion brought out the celebration broom and defeated the National Hardware with a 3-0 sweep of sports leadership and management (Tampa Bay).

Two years after Jake Manning, John Casey and Dylan Wahl entered governor as a sophomore, they broke through in high school, while senior teammates Ryan Huff, David Brainard and Graysen Amestoy also ended their high school careers with high attention.

“It’s very exciting,” said head coach Danielle McCoy. "This is the goal from the start of the season. We had a mission after a crushing defeat in the regional championship game last year, so the boys were very motivated to do what we could."

King beat Cardinal Gibbons in the same round in this year's campaign after losing to Seminole Ridge in the regional championship game last year, the only game that really tested its limits throughout the playoffs.

Back in the National Series, it was a collective effort of a lineup led by seniors at Kings College.

"Graysen Amestoy is certainly another player of the year," McCoy said. "Ryan Huff went from Jupiter High and had a huge impact on our season. Our setter Jake Manning is the leader and captain, and when we get emotional, our calmness is our calmness. Then, Isaiah is a big part of our offense."

King took an active lead in this playoffs, with the Lions shooting six shots from the start to the end of the playoffs, including JC Bermudez Doral volleyball in the Class 1A national semifinals.

The Lions ended with a record of 22-5 in the fourth year of planning history.
