Kim Kardashian will appear in Paris later today as a witness, dating back to 2016 when she was detained at gunpoint and took millions of dollars of jewelry from her.
The 44-year-old reality TV star and 44-year-old businesswoman are expected to take a stand in the afternoon, giving her a version of the theft, who saw her tied in a gun and held the muzzle in a luxury suite, where she had lived during Paris Fashion Week.
She took millions of dollars worth of jewelry from her, including $4 million (£2.9 million) of diamonds from her then-husband Kanye West.
Ten people, which began last month, are being tried.
On Monday, witnesses said night receptionist Abderrahmane Ouatiki said he was paraded to Kardashian's hotel suite and at the request of the thief, saying the American star was "completely hysterical" and "completely terrifying in states" because "very nervous person" pointed at her at a gun.
"He was very active and she was totally scared," said ouatiki.
He added that he was also worried about his life due to the unstable behavior of the thief, apparently being stimulated by the Kardashian screams.
Three people reportedly received at the exclusive hotel DePourtalès in central Paris, while two other men forced Ouatiki to take them to Kardashian's suite, where they asked her to give him a ring and stole other jewelry for $9 million.
The men were arrested three months later along with several other accessories believed to be crimes.
Eventually the twelve will appear in court, although one died in March and the other was forgiven for health reasons. Of the remaining 10, all but two of them denied any involvement in the burglary. Jewelry was never found, but police believe they were broken down and sold.
French media called the defendant "Grandpa robbers", just like a few people in the 1970s. Many people also have serious health problems. One is undergoing chemotherapy, while the other has visible tremors.
The alleged leader Aomar Ait Ait Khedache, 68, was questioned last week but was deaf and mute, silent and had to write down his answers with a pen and paper that were projected onto the screen.
Since the trial began on April 28, prosecutors have tried to eliminate the image of the unfortunate elderly theft — reportedly they did not know that the victim was a well-known celebrity.
Last week, they may have made mistakes, but they are still a decent team. ”
He noted that the thieves tied Kardashian's feet and ankles to her mouth, tied to her mouth, and they parked near the crime scene in a car and used a burner phone.
"It's done well," he said, adding: "They achieved that because they managed to whip the cargo and master it on the $4 million ring in Antwerp, which wasn't easy."
Watiki also drew a frightening photo in his testimony, which illustrates one of the thefts, who said he was wielding a gun and "pressure pressure and shouting...you think that's a person who can be very dangerous."
Ouatiki serves as an interpreter between the man and Kardashian and says he does everything he can to "calm down because I don't know what he can."
The court heard that when the thief tied up Kardashian and took her to the bathroom, she simply wore a bathrobe and belted away. When asked by Kardashian's lawyer, Léonore Hennerick, described the moment, Ouatiki declined to give a detailed introduction. "I think you have to respect the victims," he said.
Kardashian mentioned this moment in an emotional interview in 2020, telling American journalist David Letterman that she believes she will be sexually assaulted.
"I was like, 'Okay, this is when I'm going to be raped," she said.
She added that she was worried about her life and she was worried about her sister Khloe, who was outside the club: "I will die in the room and she will be traumatized for the rest of her life."
Instead, the thief grabbed her ring and various other jewelry, phone calls and 1,000 euros in cash and ran away. Kardashian was able to untie herself soon, and her bodyguard arrived soon after. She issued a statement to the police in the early morning of October 3 and flew back to the United States immediately.
As for Ouatiki, an Algerian national who was a PhD in semiotics at the time, Ouatiki said his speculation in the media suffered a great deal of pain because he might have been robbing.
"The suspicion is very heavy," he told the court.
Ouatiki told French media that he lost his student status shortly after the robbery and had to return to Algeria, where he was diagnosed with PTSD.
He told Cape Le: “It was a disaster and my life was broken.”
On Tuesday morning, Kardashian’s friend and designer Simone Bretter will stand up. She lived in the same suite during the robbery, but on different floors, she hid in when she realized the thief had broken in.
Almost 500 journalists have gained recognition, and Kardashian's testimony will attract great media attention.
"Testimation will allow her to take back the agency and rewrite the ending in this case," said Jeetendr Sehdev, a celebrity expert and author of Kim Kardashian's Principles.
He told the BBC: "In 2016, she became the focus. But testifying in 2025 will turn her into a narrator."
