Kevin Spacey made a surprise appearance in Cannes to accept the award

Kevin Spacey will return to the Cannes Film Festival for the first time in nearly a decade to collect lifelong achievements honors.

The two-time Oscar winner was last in the Cannes Film Festival in 2016, when he served as the emcee of the AMFAR event and broke into Donald Trump without even a Republican confirmed presidential candidate. A lot has happened since then, with Trump being elected multiple times, and Spacey’s career has been accusations of multiple sexual misconduct.

However, the actor is now back to Cannes, where he will arrive on Sunday as he was found not responsible in a civil lawsuit in New York in 2022 and acquitted in a criminal case in London the following year. On Tuesday, he will receive a special Lifetime Achievement Award at the "Breest World Fund" evening, adding to a similar honor he received in Italy last year.

Spacey visits Cannes type Understanding that it might even include red carpets in the palace can cause a sensation. But that's the point. The entire trip and what he earned the award - curated by the producer of the conspiracy thriller Awakening, he sells it on the festival and on the festival.

This British independent film - a sinister global conspiracy about controlling the world (and run by Spacey), is his first film to be cleared in the UK in 2023, and it is his last trial.

“We've not just kind of crowdbarred him in. It makes sense. It's not 'House of Cards,' but it's very in line with that kind of character," said producer Matt Hookings of Camelot Films, adding that bringing him to Cannes is all part of his company's "guerrilla marketing" to bring attention to the film, which also includes viral videos promoted by Spacey's co-stars.

"So if someone talks to him, he can say he's in Cannes and gets awards, but he's here 'Awakening', so the movie gets plugged in," Hookings said.

While flying and accommodating Spacey and his small team, it was an expensive expense for a small independent production company, and over the past few years, the Better World Fund awards have been honored by the likes of Kevin Costner and Sharon Stone – which proved relatively easy.

“The guy who runs is a big fan of Kevin, and I just said, ‘Look, that’s a crazy idea: If I want him to come, what can you do for him?’,” “So organic happened.”

The producer added: “A lot of people really like him, so you’ll have a lot of people going, ‘It’s really cool.’ Then, you’ll have some people going to like, ‘What the hell is he doing here? "But hope those who say "what the fuck are doing" will give him a chance when they realize why he is here."
