Kate del Castillo's Cholawood signs premiere deal with Mediapro Studio

Kate Del Castillo's Cholawood Productions has signed a first-look deal with Mediapro Studio in the United States and Canada.

The arrangement will give Mediapro Studio exclusive first and option rights to develop and produce all of Cholawood's scripted and unscripted projects, JC Acosta, head of TMS US and Canada, revealed during a panel discussion at Content Americas in Miami.

Projects will be in Spanish or English or both, and span all different genres. Acosta said in Miami. The news comes one day after Daniel Burman's "Yosi, The Regretful Spy" won the Latin Golden Rose Award for Best Drama Film at Content Americas announced on.

Also on Tuesday, Mediapro Studio confirmed that Francesca Ricagni has been appointed as its first U.S. Hispanic content director.

Cholawood was co-founded by Del Castillo with entertainment partners Carmen Cervantes and Jessica Maldonado, whose latest projects include the hit Spanish-language series “Volver a Caer” on ViX and the action thriller “Hunting Ana Bravo” from Cholawood, Erik Barmack’s TMS-backed Wild Sheep Content (Los Angeles) and Park City-based Top Dead Center Films.

Speaking at the Content Americas panel via video message, Castillo added, "Both companies are interested in telling stories with mass appeal that transcend orders and audiences."
