NEW YORK - Juan Soto, who returned to Yankee Stadium, encountered a rare sneer when he walked out of the batsman's box, took off his helmet, tilted it into the crowd, and touched it on his heart.
Teammates joked in the metropolitan canoe and made an anime response.
“I just did it,” Soto recalled after the game. "The guy loves it."
Soto scored two-thirds of the Steinbrenner family’s fortunes Friday night after Mets owner Steve Cohen’s Mets owner Steve Cohen’s huge sums of money, after Steve Cohen rejected the Steinbrenner family’s fortunes, Soto scored two-thirds on Friday night’s 6-2 Metro Series, his first since Los Angeles Dodgers, which ended last fall last fall.
Many bleach creatures turned around as Soto jogs to the bottom of the first one on the right wearing a bright orange wristband. Some fans shouted "Overvalue!"
After Soto caught Cody Bellinger flying in the eighth inning and threw the ball into the seat, fans threw it back into the field, causing cheers.
"It's predictable," said Yankees starter Carlos Rodón, who left Soto three times.
Soto scored a faint three-hop home with a two-quarter 3-pointer in Anthony Volpe's 243-foot sacrifice fly before scoring fourth in Brandon Nimmo's fourth place.
Soto smiled and smiled as the attack began. Soto, a 26-year-old four-time All-star, thinks it's the worst booing he's ever been.
“You have to embrace it,” Soto said. "At the end of the day, whatever they give you, it's all. You have to be a professional. You have to treat it as a man. I'm just enjoying this moment."
Both teams led their division in the first of six Metro series this season, with the Yankees on Al East 26-18 and the Mets on NL East 28-17 for the first time.
Yankees fans want Soto to stay in their roster and lead Judge Aaron. New York acquired Soto from San Diego in December 2023, and he helped them win the World Series for the first time since 2009. Then, one season later, he left the Bronx as a free agent in the smuggling game, earning a record $765 million, 15-year contract with METS, a team with two world series that won 27th place in the Yankees.
Soto turned down the Yankees’ $760 million, 16-year offer, and he would feel even more appreciated when Cohen included the personal safety of the outfielder and his family, free access to luxury suites and up to four premium tickets.
Yankees fans have been waiting since December to let Soto hear their thoughts.
“It’s loud,” said Carlos Mendoza, a former Yankees coach, the Mets manager. "That's what makes this place a unique place. I think they have a lot of respect."
Soto defeated Mark Leiter Jr. in the seventh inning against Mark Leiter Jr., while Luke Weaver ended, putting two runners in a strait. Cohen left his second row seat behind the plate in the seventh inning.
A few hours ago, Soto spoke with former teammate and manager Aaron Boone during batting practice. He said they "expressed love."
"It's a great environment," Boone said. "Of course, on those nights, you can really feel the energy in the building."
Mendoza talked to Soto about the rewards earlier this week.
“Hug it,” the manager told him. “Try to enjoy every second of it and just be yourself.”
Soto entered 43 games with an average of .255 hits, eight home runs, 20 RBIs and .845 OPS, up from last year’s game count of .313, 9 home runs, 34 RBIs and .947 OPS, while last year’s game count was the same.
Last season, he hit .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBIs and 129 walks, ranking second in the commands of the 21st century version of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Soto hit a burst of home runs against Cleveland in the AL Championship Series opener, earning a three-round home run in the tenth inning and winning the Guardian in Game 5.
"Juan obviously only stayed here for a year, but what he meant to the team last year was huge," pitcher Clay Holmes said. "He's in town. Some people may not like that."
Soto got his first boo 40 minutes before the first court when he went to the right field during batting practice, blocking the back in Ken Griffey Jr's style.
"They shit you because something happened," Soto said. "I kind of liked it."
