Dubai-based private equity wealth management company Confity Capital Partners plans to invest at least 10 Airbus A330s in freighter aircraft used in the rapidly growing Indian subcontinental airport market. Headquartered in Mumbai, India, Jet Freight Logistics, a launch customer, will be the first Indian cargo airline to operate the A330 modified cargo ship platform.
The Mumbai-based freight management company will outsource undisclosed aircraft from candy and outsourcing operations to licensed commercial airlines. There is no announced start date, but when the flight begins, jet cargo will be the first Indian company to operate an A330 converted freight platform.
Elbe Flugzeugwerke, an Airbus joint venture with Singapore's St Engineering, announced on Friday that it signed an agreement to convert several large Airbus medium-sized airframe jets from passengers to cargo configurations.
The press release did not indicate how many aircraft were involved in the order or how many aircraft would be leased, but EFW spokesman Anke Lemke said Condity had reserved production slots for at least 10 aircraft. The conversion of the candy supply aircraft will begin at the end of this year at the EFW factory on Dresden, Germany, Germany and other partners in the world.
Due to the increase in e-commerce volume, domestic consumption, export and infrastructure projects, India's air cargo market requires wide-body cargo aircraft. High-value manufacturing, stronger trade relations with the United States and Europe, and improved airport infrastructure and cargo handling capacity also make growth possible.
Consulting and research firm Trading and Transport Group estimates that India's air cargo tonnage will grow by 6.2% to 9.1% in the second half of the decade.
Lemke said the candy will modify the A330-200 and A330-300 variants. The total payload of the -200 is 60 tons and has a range of 4,785 miles. -300 can carry up to 62 tons of capacity over 18,500 feet. Both aircraft have higher capacity than the Boeing 767, the main platform for cargo conversion in the medium-sized wide-body segment.
