This week, I jumped on a train and headed to Washington to cover the second inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
I'm very excited. This is my first time taking office, and although my chosen candidate has not yet been sworn in, I understand the gravity of this moment. If something has only happened 47 times in history, it's a big deal! No matter your politics, it's an honor to be a part of it.
That said, while we are welcoming Donald Trump back to the White House, it is important not to lose sight of all the accomplishments that have been accomplished during the Biden-Harris administration. There are 11 things on my list. Yes, I know his approval ratings are at an all-time low and the American people have chosen a different direction. But this does not change the facts on the ground. History has been kinder to Joe Biden than you might think.
Biden ends a half-century in politics as he fails to turn the page on Trump, putting heavy pressure on the president
First, President Biden just announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The deal is based on Biden's three-phase proposal, starting with the return of the 33 Israeli and American hostages and ending with a reconstruction plan for Gaza. Do Trump and his Israeli envoys matter? must. But it was done under Biden's watch and in conjunction with his negotiators.
2. Consider the strength of the economic recovery he oversaw from a once-in-a-century pandemic that claimed a million lives. Today, the unemployment rate is 4.1%, the lowest level since Bill Clinton at the end of President Biden's term. GDP growth momentum is strong, approaching 3%. Although inflation remains stubborn, rising slightly to 2.9% this month, the underlying inflation trend has slowed to 3.2%. What about the stock market? This is the best ever. Our recovery is the envy of the industrialized world.
3. None of this would have been possible without the American Rescue Act, which sent $1,400 checks to most families (no, Donald Trump didn’t give you that money) and expanded the child tax credit , thus reducing child poverty in half. $14 billion to distribute superior Covid-19 vaccines and provide forgivable loans to small businesses. Democrats get us back on track.

4. One of the greatest achievements is solving the problem of Americans’ health care costs. Under the Inflation Reduction Act, Medicare caps the cost of insulin for millions of seniors at $35. Out-of-pocket prescription drug prices under Medicare are now capped at $2,000, saving 19 million Americans more than $400 a month. Let’s not forget that Medicare can now negotiate drug prices, a Democratic goal for years that finally became a reality under Biden.
5. Is it infrastructure week? Indeed! Biden's bipartisan infrastructure deal would revolutionize America's roads and bridges. High-speed rail will no longer be a pipe dream. Broadband for everyone, even broadband in rural America. Ports and waterways will get the attention they have needed for decades, and our cybersecurity will get a much-needed upgrade. Good, well-paying union jobs make all of this possible, and of course it will all take time to come to fruition, but the launch of this deal is a landmark moment for the country.
6. The CHIP and Science Act is one of Biden’s only major accomplishments that Republicans admit is a good thing. Historic investments in manufacturing create hundreds of thousands of new jobs and truly strengthen our national security, making CHIPS an important piece of legislation. We no longer need to look to China for chips, which is a major victory for American hegemony and security.
7. Although the PACT Act went largely unnoticed, it was a monumental piece of legislation that expanded Veterans Administration benefits and care to help those with 23 respiratory illnesses and Burn pit, Agent Orange and other toxin-related cancers in veterans. In just two years, more than 1 million PACT Act applications have been approved, and nearly 900,000 veterans are receiving the disability benefits they deserve.
8, 9, 10, 11. There's a lot to tout, like the historic investment in HBCUs, the 235 federal judges confirmed, tens of thousands of dollars in union pension savings, and most importantly, the first major gun safety legislation in the U.S. in decades Year.

All in all, as time goes on, it’s hard to imagine that Biden’s four years in office won’t be seen as delivering real and substantive results for Americans.
Is he going to Mount Rushmore? I doubt it. But minimizing what he has done for this country greatly betrays the reality of his legacy, and there is no doubt that Trump will benefit greatly from Biden's agenda in his first two years in office.
