Lingard found peace of mind on the other end of the world.
His start in South Korea did not go as planned. Meniscus surgery reduced his first season's progress.
But, it will surely be slowly, surely, Lingard is rediscovering his love for the game.
He said he was as healthy and strong as ever.
"I travel between 10 km and 12 km per race and my high-speed running is always high," Lingard said.
Playing in the Heat would cause losses, but the hard conditions forced Lingard to find a higher level of self-discipline.
"I've been injured all season, taking care of my body, recovering better, eating the right food, professionally," Lingard said.
“In England, I have chefs and personal trainers. It’s completely different here. I have to do it myself.
“I remember one of the first games in Jeju Island – I felt like I was bragging a few minutes later. Too wet.
"The rhythm is high here and the game is intense. At first, I wasn't suitable, but once I found the rhythm, I was used to it."
The pain of leaving Manchester United is behind Lingard, and the uneasiness of his move to Nottingham Forest has disappeared.
Although many would question his decision to leave European football to South Korea, Lingard enjoyed his football - and enjoyed his life.
"I didn't play at Manchester United at the time, so I felt stressed because all I wanted to do was play football - when you get stressed, you get distracted."
"I find peace here. Happiness is peace at the end of the day. If you can find it, it's OK.
"I'm still playing football, I'm very happy. I still have soccer in front of football for many years - I'm 32, but the statistics don't show that I'm 32.
“I can play for a long time. It’s 100% the right choice. It’s a brand new beginning and bringing my happiness back to football, which is the main thing.
“It was an amazing experience. Different cultures, people are amazing, the city is amazing.
"I feel like I'm jumping and boundaries mentally. I think this move improves my perspective on life."
Seoul will obviously have a special place in Lingard's heart forever. But the future?
Lingard's contract expires at the end of the current K-League season in November, but Seoul Football has the option to extend its trade by 12 months.
"I've thought about a lot of the future," Lingard added.
“It may not happen much this season, so I just want to focus on football. But other possibilities exist – of course, you’ll think about it.
"We are just humans. We will see what happens when the (transmission) window opens."
