Jeff Sperbeck reportedly died in a golf cart driven by John Elway

Jeff Sperbeck, a longtime friend, agent and business partner, Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway died earlier Wednesday after four days of falling from a golf cart driven by a private golf community in La Quinta, California.

TMZ reported that Elway allegedly drove a golf cart in the Madison Club community Saturday night when Spelbeck fell from the Madison Club and hit him in the head. TMZ said Sperbeck's breathing was breathing when someone called 911.

The Riverside County Fire Department told the Times Wednesday that medical staff responded to the urgent appeal to mention people who fell from the area’s golf cart at around 6:50 p.m. a Saturday. Medical staff reported to the department that the patient had suffered serious injuries and transported them to a local trauma center.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, St. Clement resident Spelbeck was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday at the Desert Regional Medical Center.

The sheriff's office said in a statement that the incident had been informed on Monday and an investigation began.

“The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office received information about the golf cart incident in the 53000 block of Humboldt Avenue in La Quinta on April 26, resulting in the injury of a man identified as Jeffrey Sperbeck, 62, of San Clemente.” “After a preliminary investigation, medical personnel’s reaction to Sperbeck and transported to a local hospital. On April 30, Sperbeck was pronounced dead due to injury.

"The Riverside County Sheriff's Office is committed to a thorough investigation of Spelbeck's death and will take appropriate action based on the results. There will be no further details at this time."

Sperbeck has represented over 100 NFL players in his 30 years as an agent and business consultant. He became Elway's marketing and business activities manager in 1990. Together, the two founded seven breweries, and Sperbeck served as CEO.

The Elway and Sperbeck families made separate statements to multiple media outlets on Wednesday.

“I was shocked and saddened by the death of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck,” Elway said. “There is no words that really express the deep sorrow of the sudden loss of me by someone who means a lot to me.

“My heart and deepest compassion are to Jeff’s wife Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson and everyone who knows and loves him.

Sperbeck's family wrote: "Jeff is an excellent father, husband, brother, son and friend who is deeply missed by many.

"As a family, we are saddened with our dearest friend Elway and many other clients Jeff called friends the loss," the family added. "We appreciate the overwhelming support we have received and demanded our families for privacy during this difficult time."

Elway has played in 16 NFL seasons, all for the Denver Broncos. He led the team to five Super Bowls, winning the last two after the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Later, as General Manager and Executive Vice President of Football Action, Elway helped the team play two more Super Bowls, including a victory after the 2015 season.

Elway is a former senior star in Granada Hills High, and his contract expires in 2023 as an advisor to the Broncos.
