Second consecutive year type In collaboration with the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative, the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Award was presented to Jean Smart this year at the 2025 variety show FYC TV Festival. The visionary award was launched last year to recognize women who have achieved Moore’s legacy through “the groundbreaking achievements of storytelling.” Vision Initiative founder Dr. Robert Levine opened the 2025 ceremony and delivered an introductory speech about the award and his late wife.
“I have been married to my lover, Mary Tyler Moore for 33 years. When she passed away in 2017, I promised that I would do everything I could to honor her legacy and I couldn’t think of a better way to honor her than a woman celebrating Mary’s Hollywood idol peer – Jean Smart – Jean Smart. “Beautiful, yet accessible, brave and kind, adventurer, pioneer, generous, with great grace.” ”
Levine ends the introduction with a quote from Smart's "Babylonian" character Elinor St. John. "'A 50-year-old child will stumble upon your image flashing on the screen and feel that he knows you like a friend. You have received the gift. Thank you." Gene, I really appreciate you sharing your gift of great talent with us and that we have it in the movie that can be cherished forever. ”
Smart's "Hacks" co-star Kaitlin Olson took the stage to present the award to her Smart. "Working with Jean to make her laugh or cry or impress her in any way is the highest compliment. Jean sets the bar and it doesn't make any progress. She's also the only woman I've worked with on the screen that is taller than me, and I love it, too," Olson joked.
The "always sunny" star revealed the surprise video news from Carol Burnett, who performed a cameo in the recent "hacks." “I’m glad Jean won the Mary Tyler Moore Award for Variety Show today. Mary smashed the glass ceiling with her talent and changed the way women on the screen are portrayed. She is also known for her extraordinary compassion, while Jean is known for her kindness, as her kindness is the “watchman” of “design women”, ‘with of toern of town of town’’ A new generation of audience congratulations, we’re all looking forward to watching on screen for many years.
After Burnett's well-being, Smart came on stage to accept Olson's award. Smart began her speech, reflecting her and Moore’s common position as diabetics. "We're all type 1 diabetes. When I got diabetes, I was only 13, and of course, that's the worst thing that could have happened when you were a kid. They told you, 'not only can you eat sugar, but you have to shoot sugar.' I mean, what are the two worst things you can say to your kids?"
Smart said she was honored to receive the award in addition to having personal connections with Vision Initiative’s career because of her high opinion of the same name. "I only met Mary a few times and I've always wished I could get to know her better. Recently, I've read something that reminds me of my childhood because I'm a family ham."
"Mary said her grandfather was about eight to ten years old and said she would linger, jump and flip whatever she was doing. He said, 'That kid would either come on stage or go to jail.' Well, thank God, she came on stage, thank God, I also hope Mary would see the "hacker". I was likable and thought she would really like the show."
Smart ended her speech, reflecting Moore's legacy and conveying her words of wisdom. "I can't tell you how many compliments it is. I also hope my mom and dad are here and they will like and appreciate that. Mary has one more thing, and she said one more thing, it's not that I care about what others think of me, it's not something I have to watch it a few times because it's a humor, but as an actor, you don't know how people think of you
