Jalen Milroe may take time to develop quarterback, but his leadership is undeniable

Renton, Wash. - Jalen Milroe is not Russell Wilson.

He didn't want to be. And Seahawks don't need it. not yet.

On Friday, on the first day of rookie mini camp, Miro showed highly acceptable skills (no contact, no mat) without being challenged.

In this case, the talent that made him such a promising offensive weapon was not obvious.

He doesn't have to scramble and show his elite speed and excitement with the ball in his hand - his skills will make him an interesting live transfer as he develops into a fully equipped NFL quarterback.

But there was once a trait that Milroe showed on Friday, which may indeed set him apart from other young quarterbacks.

After practice, Milroe talked in such a mature and humble capacity when she made her first media appearance that it was obvious that he could be a natural leader, even a rookie.

This shows why he was once Alabama twice and how he was so successful that he was named the Campbell Trophy champion, known as Academic Heisman.

He shines with a rare sense of self for a 22-year-old who enjoys such high profile popularity.

Part of the quarterback, he said, is “emphasizing your love for football and how much you care.” “You are working to earn respect and trust.”

The keyword in this comment is “making money.”

He said having a military pair teaches him “determination, perseverance, short-term and long-term goals…I don’t believe in the word ‘home-control’ and it takes a team to achieve your goals.”

Milroe, 6-2, 216, with a weird 4.37 speed of over 40 yards, wasn't a great college quarterback last season, with 11 interceptions and 16 touchdown passes. But he did make 20 touchdowns, earning 185 yards with 4 touchdowns in a game against LSU.

He has a total of nearly 500 yards against Georgia and scored four TDs.

But he had three turnovers and was fired five times at the Sakis Bowl to Michigan. Against the SEC opponent, he threw twice the interception (10) (10) (5).

That's why he was in the air over the third round.

Since both are third-round draft quarterbacks for the Seattle Seahawks, a comparison with Wilson is inevitable.

Even for rookies, Wilson proves that people without typical physical indicators may be effective. He eventually led the team to a pair of Super Bowls and was named to 10 Pro Bowls throughout his career.

Wilson took an estimated 500 snapshots at the three-day camp in 2012, and the offense had to stop the game and then returned to huddle because Wilson couldn't make it possible for everyone to master.

The direct command of the program and his responsibilities were so impressive that coach Pete Carroll announced that Wilson had shown enough games to play.

Milroe has a more obvious physical gift and athletic ability than Wilson. But his most important gift was time. Currently, Milroe is inserted behind Sam Darnold and Drew Lock and will have a chance to mature.

On Friday, his pass showed good speed and touched well, especially on a deep cross route at the end of Elijah Arroyo, who made the tip of his fingertips.

The Arroyo in Miami is 6-5, 255, and the size and smooth pace can help immediately as a tight end to capture. Later, he showed an impressive catch-Catch-Radius in the pass that was too high in the middle of Milroe.

Miro's accuracy and timing aroused the biggest doubts of the Boy Scouts. On Friday, he seemed accurate enough, but sometimes inaccurate. On one pass, a little later, the ball was tilted and intercepted.

Afterwards, he talked about his work on improving low-body mechanics because “everything for the quarterback is built from scratch.”

This is a good metaphor for Milroe's early days in the Seahawks. Built from scratch. He first promised to learn his job and be a good teammate.

“Honestly, my goal is to be the best version of myself, better than the day before and to earn the trust and respect of everyone in the organization,” Miro said.

The evidence is early and incomplete, but there is a lot to like about the Seahawks’ 2025 draft course. From top to bottom, it may be more athletic and talented than anyone since the 2012 draft.

Milroe will take some time to play a more important role, turning his tremendous potential into measurable production, but his influence as a leader and role model has become obvious.
