Jacqueline MA, 36, sentenced to 30 years for sexual abuse of students

A former California “teacher of the year” was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing her two sixth-grade students.

Jacqueline MA, 36, pleaded guilty in February to two counts of forced lustful acts against a child, one count of acts against a child and one count of possessing child sexual abuse materials, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office said in a press release.

"The defendant violated her trust in the students in the most extreme and traumatic way, and her behavior was mean," said District Attorney Stephen. "Her victims will have to deal with the negative impact of their lifetime, and her 30-year prison sentence is appropriate."

MA teaches at Lincoln Acre Elementary School in the National City and is the former San Diego County "Teacher of the Year" for the 2022-2023 school year.

Ma was allowed to speak to the public before a judge sentenced the sentence, according to the San Diego United Tribune.

"I abused my authority, imposed power and controlled them, and deceived them," Mom said in court, as she handcuffed and cried. "Boys of this age should be playing outside and feeling carefree...I tore their childhood open."

Ma apologized to the victim and his family, calling her selfish crimes and “shamed the teaching profession.”

"I lied to them while secretly abusing their sons." "I just pray for extra protection and strength for all (affected) people."

Prosecutors said in March 2023, the parents of a 12-year-old boy discovered inappropriate news on the home tablet between his son and his teacher.

The District Attorney’s Office said the young boys were immediately provided with “gifts, food and special attention and even completed their homework.”

The district attorney's office said that although the boy's parents did not allow him to own social media or his own electronics, Jack Ma was able to communicate with him through an unauthorized after-school program and school chat application.

Prosecutors said Ma sexually assaulted him in the classroom for three months, and his parents believed he was participating in an after-school basketball program.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, further investigation into the MA revealed that she sexually assaulted the second victim (the 11-year-old boy) in 2020.

"No children deserve what this defendant has done, and I hope this sentence brings judicial justice measures to the victims, their families and communities," Stephen said.
