Israel confirms Gaza's new offensive as it bids for "achieving all goals of the war"
Jason Burke
Israel announced a major new offensive in Gaza after launching a wave of air strikes on the territory, killing more than 100 people, a brand new effort to force Hamas to release the hostages.
In a statement late Friday, the IDF said they “launched a wide range of attacks and mobilized forces to occupy the strategic areas of the Gaza Strip, part of the Gideon chariots and the expansion of the campaign in Gaza to achieve all the goals of the Gaza War”.
Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel called on thousands of reserve personnel to conduct a new offensive, with troops going on to hold on to the territory and would result in a large displacement of the population. Israeli minister talks about “conquering” Gaza.
The news comes after Donald Trump visited the region, which includes stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, but not Israeli stops.
Earlier on Friday, Donald Trump admitted that people were starving in Gaza and claimed that the United States would encounter "care" in the territory.
"We are watching Gaza. We will be taken care of. A lot of people are hungry," the U.S. president told reporters in Abu Dhabi.

Israel-backed aid team acknowledges that it will not reach the most vulnerable of Gaza

Israel-backed groups took over food distribution in Gaza because the famine loom admitted that it would not be able to feed some of the most vulnerable civilians from the planned militarized compounds.
Aid organizations and the United Nations have refused to work with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a Swiss registered organization led by the former U.S. Marine Corps. They say it has no ability to end hunger in Gaza and it is difficult to catch other war civilians by undermining their neutrality.
Israel has not formally developed its food distribution plan in Gaza, but GHF's statements and briefings by Israeli officials envision four military distribution centers in southern Gaza operated by private security companies under the supervision of Israeli military bases.
Those involved in the program said the GHF is in a "high-level discussion" with Israel's details and timing and hopes to get news soon.
The family head is expected to collect boxes weighing up to 20 kg and provide a few days of food and basic sanitary supplies (such as soap) for the family. For those who are sick or weak due to famine, there is no provision to travel long distances, cross the devastating landscape of Gaza, heavy loads.
"We understand that the program will increase the ongoing suffering of children and families in the Gaza Strip," said UNICEF spokesman Jonathan Crickx.
"How did the mother of four lose her husband and return 20 kg to her makeshift tent, sometimes a few kilometers?" Crickx said. “The most vulnerable people including the elderly, the disabled, the sick and the injured, and the orphans will face a huge challenge.”
