Welcome to our live coverage of the Israel-Gaza war. It's 7.22am in Tel Aviv and Gaza City, less than 90 minutes before the ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas is expected to come into effect at 8.30am local time (6.30am GMT) on Sunday time.

The cease-fire agreement, which would later see the release of hostages, opens the way to a possible end to the 15-month war that has upended the Middle East, Reuters reported.

Israeli troops began withdrawing from the Gaza Sharafah area to the Philadelphia corridor along the border between Egypt and Gaza, pro-Hamas media reported earlier on Sunday.

The Israeli military warned Gaza residents not to approach its troops or move around Palestinian territory ahead of the cease-fire deadline of 0630 GMT on Sunday, adding that when movement was allowed, "statements and instructions on safe crossing methods will be issued." ".

The ceasefire agreement follows months of on-again, off-again negotiations brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the United States and comes just ahead of the January 20 inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

Under the three-phase ceasefire agreement, the first phase will last six weeks, during which 33 of the remaining 98 hostages - women, children, men over 50, sick and wounded - will be released in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
