The IDF ordered the residents of Khan Yunis to evacuate as they prepare for an "unprecedented attack."
People were ordered to move towards Al-Mawasi in the western part of the strip, one of the largest evacuation orders issued by the Israeli military in recent months.
The Arabic statement shared by IDF spokesman Avicay Adraee said the area “will be considered a dangerous combat zone”, adding: “The terrorist organization has brought disaster to you. For safety reasons, evacuate immediately.”
IDF launched a new Gaza offensive on Saturday called the chariot of Operation Gideon. The hospital said more than 100 people have been killed in the past 24 hours.
A woman from Khan Younis told BBC News that the new evacuation order – which also covers the fields of Bani Suhaila and Abasan – is her "worst nightmare".
Another woman who has lived in central Gaza under evacuation orders said she would not “because there is no place to go”.
The IDF said its purpose is to "destroy the capabilities of terrorist organizations in the field."
Earlier on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would “control” the entire Gaza.
In a video posted on social media, he said: “We are having a massive battle – intense and substantial – progress.
“We’re going to control all areas of the striptease, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
IDF said it hit 160 targets in the past 24 hours.
Gaza's Ministry of Health reported that the warehouse with medical supplies in Nasser Hospital was attacked by an Israeli strike overnight.
Britain's charitable medical aid to Palestinians said the strike had "Palestinians killed and injured by other attacks were taken to hospital."
"We just saw all our work burned in ashes," a spokesperson for the charity said.
Additionally, Palestinian media reported that Israeli special forces wearing women's clothing had entered a Khan's Younis undercover and killed a man on Monday morning before arresting his wife and children.
Israeli media named him Ahmad Sarhan and reported that he was a senior member of the military division of the Popular Resistance Commission, a Palestinian militant group consistent with Hamas.
The IDF has previously stated that the expanded Gaza operation aims to “achieve all the goals of the war”, including the release of hostages and the “failed Hamas.”
But a team representing many hostage families said the action posed a "serious and escalating danger" to hostages still held in Gaza.
"The testimony of the hostage release described a serious deterioration in treatment following the military strike, including physical abuse, restraint and food reduction," the Hostages and Missing Family Forum said.
On Sunday, Israel announced it would allow “basic food” to enter Gaza to ensure “no hunger crisis development” after 10 weeks of blockade of the territory.
The war was triggered by an attack led by Hamas on October 7, 2023, with approximately 1,200 people killed and 251 held hostages.
About 58 hostages remained in Gaza, with as many as 23 of them considered alive.
More than 53,000 Palestinians were killed in Israel's military campaign in Gaza.
