Is Putin in Russia's Ukraine's peace plan or is he himself playing Trump? |Russia-Ukraine War News

Kiev, Ukraine - Ukrainian military analysts say the Kremlin deceived the White House, accepting and promoting a view on how the Russian-Ukrainian war should end.

Russian President Vladimir Putin "imposed his narrative on (his U.S. rival Donald Trump), Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko, chief of staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, told Al Jazeera.

"Trump repeated them, trying to implement them, fear and pressure, and Ukraine is already in a precarious situation," he said.

But some Western observers disagree.

"In this case Putin plays himself," Nikolay Mitrokhin, a researcher at the University of Bremen in Germany, told Al Jazeera.

"The negotiations failed because of both sides, but Zelensky scored higher in this game because he proposed a more important truce version and Trump was generally satisfied with him," Mitrokin said.

Putin proposed a three-day ceasefire between May 8 and 11 to allow Russia to conduct a military parade in Moscow's Red Square to celebrate Nazi Germany's victory.

Putin also plans to host Chinese leader Xi Jinping and other helmsmen from the former Soviet Republic, Eastern Europe and Latin America.

The May 9 celebrations were the focus of the Kremlin political calendar as Moscow claimed to have "liberated" Europe from Nazism and blamed some European leaders as well as Zelenskyy, as well as the "neo-Nazi" tendency Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy refuted Putin's proposal by providing a month-long hostilities.

Meanwhile, Putin "presented his feathers as completely unstructured roles, with only a small amount of pickiness in the negotiation process."

"The next step will be a reconciliation between the United States and Ukraine, providing additional weapons to Ukraine, as well as new, more powerful, more shocking sanctions against Russia and Trump."

However, if Trump and Putin will resolve them all, Trump's unpredictability can accommodate Trump's unpredictability.

Trump's "final proposal"

Before re-election, Trump boasted that he would end the Russian-Ukrainian war "within 24 hours."

But even a temporary ceasefire did not reach Russian missiles and drones that continued to stimulate Ukrainian cities during their tenure as president for more than 100 days.

Trump's peace plan was never made public, but his "final proposal" leaked to the media in late April, benefiting Moscow to a large extent and leaving Kiev without Washington's security assurance.

The document reportedly included a ban on Ukraine’s membership in NATO, a recognition of Washington’s “de jure” for inclusion in Crimea as part of Russia, and a “de facto” recognition of Moscow’s occupation of four Ukrainian chunks.

Currently, Russia accounts for 20% of Ukrainian territory. Since 2022, Kyiv has liberated another seven percentage points.

Putin’s largest “franchise” so far follows the “de facto” recognition of these four regions – he agreed not to require the Kiev control part of them.

Trump's "final proposal" also includes a ceasefire and a current front-line freeze in exchange for the immediate lifting of all sanctions against Russia since Crimea's annexation in 2014.

Kiev also withdrew from Europe's largest Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, near which is a huge dam that was blown dry by a powerful explosion in 2023, while small Russian regions in northeastern and southern Ukraine occupy small Russian-occupied areas.

A Kiev-based analyst called what Trump claimed was "disgusting."

"The compromise between what and what? Russia's desire to kill, rape, robbery, seize territory and our demand for territory that has not been killed, we have no room for compromise," Maria Kucherenko is Al Jazeera.

"We have used a tablespoon to bring these ceasefires and concessions to Russia," she said, referring to discussions about the ceasefire between Kiev and Russia-backed separatists in southeastern Ukraine during Trump's first presidency.

"Things are not what Zelenskyy says or doesn't say. The problem is that Russia will only do what it allows. Turn a blind eye to its further aggression."

The White House threatens to walk away if Keefe and Moscow disagree with the "final proposal."

Russia "prepare for an active summer offense"

For Ukrainian soldiers who have recovered from surgery, the purpose of Moscow's delay tactics is clear.

“Moscow postponed talks until autumn and prepared for an active summer offense trying to explore weak spots in our defense,” wrote on Telegram on Monday.

"At present, Putin doesn't want peace, which is why negotiations don't make sense. The White House can get rid of them - nothing changes at all," he wrote.

Washington has kept a distance from the negotiations after signing the long-awaited mineral deal last week.

"It will be up to them to reach a deal to stop this cruel and cruel conflict," Vice President JD Vance told Fox News on Thursday.

According to a Kiev-based analyst in Kiev, the change in rhetoric means that Trump believes minerals have won diplomatic victories ahead of a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Moscow expects Ukraine to have only one “all or partly surrender”, but as Kiev continues to fight, Trump, “it is unreasonable to play a middleman,” Igar Tyshkevych told Al Jazeera.

Meanwhile, Kremlin supporters remain confused by Trump’s chameleon mood swings.

"Is Trump's temptation over? Are we recovering?" Vladimir Solovyov, a popular TV host who once threatened to turn the West into "radioased ashes", asked verbally during his performance on Sunday.

He wore a paramilitary coat and spoke in an ominous voice, sending another warning to the West: "We don't need your love, we need your fear."

He concluded: “When we only have mental health around the world, we live a happy time.”
