Entering the final month of the regular season, Iowa Baseball (31-14, 20-5 Big Ten) lost three games on Friday night at Husky Ballpark in Seattle, Washington.
Cade Obermueller started from the hill where he sniffed nine Huskimos and gave up only two hits, but was pulled to the fifth in the fifth inning after surrendering to five free bases and allowing Washington to tie the game with a two-game score.
Within the seventh third of the game, Obermueller entered the eighth-squad-season strikeout in program history (92), surpassing his father, Wes Obermueller. Current Player Development Director Wes Obermueller pitched for the Hawkeyes from 1997-99, and was then selected by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft.
Anthony Watts came out of the bullpen and threw 3 2/3 innings, giving up two runs with zero hits and hitting six innings. Brant Hogue went to the bottom of the ninth place and recorded it.
Regarding scoring, Iowa led 1-0 in the second inning, when Andy Nelson hit his third home run in the last three games. Gable Mitchell will then win the Hawkeye advantage for the fifth time with an RBI SAC flight 2-0.
Iowa regained its lead when Blake Guerin and Kooper Schulte led back-to-back doubles 3-2 after Washington tied the game at the bottom of the first frame.
Unfortunately for Iowa, the Huskimos will combine the game with the game again at the bottom of the seventh inning.
With the score tied to the bottom of ninth, Washington will scrape on the winning run and get two outs in a safe squeeze on the third base line.
The Hawkeyes will start this CT at 9:05 pm, even today's second game.
The game will be played on Big Ten Plus (subscription required). Fans can also follow the play-by-play sounds with Hawkeye Radio Network John Leo and color analyst John Evans.
