MILAN, Italy - International goalkeeper Yann Sommer praised his "special rescue" after helping his team overcome Barcelona in Tuesday's excellent Champions League semifinal.
Sommer somehow made a curl effort from Yamal Wide in the 114th minute, and the overtime strike of backup Davide Frattesi won 4-3 on the night and got a spot in the final.
It was Sommer's 7-6 overall win after two pulsation matches between the two teams, backed by a raucous family crowd in San Siro.
"I'm so glad it was an incredible game," Sommer told Sky Italia. “The team did a huge thing tonight.
"The last saving of Lamin is a very special. He is a great player and always walks in and shoots. I'm glad it didn't play. This game shows we're believing until the end. Look at what (Francisco) Akebe balanced in the 93rd minute. We believe until the end."
The International Front led twice last week in the first leg at Barcelona, winning 3-3 in the first leg and seeing the lead of two other goals on Tuesday disappear.
Lautaro Martínez and Hakan Çalhanoglu's first half goal canceled the first half goal after Eric García and Dani Olmo took a break as Barcelona counterattacked in the draw for the third time.
Inter looked like he was exiting the game when Raphinha hit the 87th minute, giving the Laliga leader its first lead.
But there was a twist, with experienced defender Acerbi taking the game to the extra time while Frattersi scored a memorable victory.
“We must also praise Barcelona because they are really a strong opponent,” coach Simone Inzaghi said in a press conference, leading Inter to the second Champions League final in three years. “It takes a great middle, so I commend my team for being great on both legs. It’s the only way to get to the finals.
“I’m very proud and happy to be their coach. They gave me everything I have. Their success in this stadium is right.
"They should enjoy every moment in front of these fans. They are models. I told the players that we can limit Barcelona even if it's not easy.
“We have been there for a week, (Denzel) Dumfries and (Marcus) Thrame is back and Frattersi is unable to train yesterday.
“They are not 100% suitable, so we have to use our hearts to penetrate all obstacles.”
Inter Milan will meet with Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain in the final and will likely play in a fairly or even fairly.
This is different from the story two years ago, when the International Front lost the final against Manchester City, and Inzaghi said they have beaten Europe's best teams by beating two quarter-finals and semi-finals in Europe.
When asked about the difference between now and the team’s previous appearances in the finals, he added: “We’ve grown up in two years.” “The most important thing is the journey, what we’ve done this season. We need to continue that. The Champions League final will be against the great teams.
"It will be a great game no matter who it is. After defeating Bayern Munich and Barcelona, the other two teams are also difficult to beat, but Bayern and Barcelona are probably the two best teams in Europe."
Inter Milan will try to catch up with Naples in Serie A before the final in Munich on May 31. They fell behind the leader’s three points this weekend and returned to the league this weekend.
