Instacart launches Fizz, a new app for ordering party drinks and snacks

Instacart has launched a new drink and snack delivery app called Fizz, the company announced Tuesday. The 21+ app is built for friends and family and is designed to make it easier to stock a party or party.

The party host can invite guests to join their hissing cart so that everyone can choose what they want to bring to the party. The app is designed to eliminate the headache of splitting your bills, so everyone pays for the expenses they add to the cart.

"It became more common when people gathered to share the contribution they needed to host a party, but then they did this sort of thing," Daniel Danker, chief product officer at Instacart, told TechCrunch. "After that, they opened up Venmo and allocated the cost. While we thought it was great and certainly better than the manual approach in the past, we actually thought there was a chance to completely eliminate this step and make it easier."

With the launch of Fizz, Instacart diversifies its revenue streams and products while attracting new types of customers. Fizz's social, party planning aspect allows the company to take advantage of young people who may not use Instacart.

As a host of Fizz, you can create a party cart and put links into group chats. Guests can add to the party cart even if they are not downloaded. You decide when to place an order and immediately deliver it or arrange it at your party for a fixed $5 delivery fee. Guests do not have to pay delivery fees or any other type of fees.

Unlike Instacart, Instacart allows you to place orders in grocery, restaurant, retail and courier partners, Fizz focuses on specific categories: drinks and snacks. This includes beer, suroter, non-alcoholic beverages, fries, dips, healthy snacks or party supplies. When you buy a drink, you earn “snacks” that can be redeemed for discounts on snacks.

Items in the party cart will be shopped from grocery stores near the Instacart platform and delivered by Instacart shoppers.

Danker said Instacart came up with the idea of Fizz after realizing the way people gather and socialize. For example, older generations will pay for all items when hosting events and choose the services they will provide. However, the practices of younger generations are different, as Gen Z and millennials tend to feel the need to share the cost of gatherings, Danker noted. Plus, they want to make sure everyone’s needs are considered, whether it’s for those who don’t drink or those who follow a gluten-free diet. He said Fizz aims to address this evolving landscape in an affordable way.

While the app is designed for groups, Danker believes there may be opportunities for individuals who use Fizz using the new app instead of Instacart.

"Instacart is designed for weekly recurring stores and then fill out an order in between," Danke said. "Fizz Experience is a very lightweight experience. You don't even have to choose a store in front. This is $5 flat and you will receive the order. You don't have to have a membership, and most customers who use Instacart will come back every week. Therefore, membership makes sense. Fizz, no membership required, is truly lightweight, very simple concept. You are earning snacks while shopping. Therefore, it is designed for different groups and audiences than those who tend to use Instacart. ”

As part of the launch, event planning app Partifor has integrated Fizz directly into invitations from hosts and guests. You and your guests will be able to click on the Fizz link to start the party cart. Everyone on the event page can see the entire cart in Promiful.

“With the new hissing integration, we are addressing another major logistical headache: stocking up parties and making sure everyone’s tastes are explained – putting your entire event into practice.

The new app comes a year after Uber's acquisition in 2021, after Uber shut down its alcohol volume service. While Drizly and Fizz share some similarities, Instacart aims to drive its success by incorporating social aspects into its new app, aiming to attract the attention of Gen Z and millennials. Plus, while Drizly focuses on drinking, Fizz offers snacks and party supplies.

Fizz is in compliance with local laws and jurisdictions for handling. The app is available in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Louisiana (certain regions), Massachusetts, Michigan, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nebraska, New Mexico Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.
