Indiana fever faces Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese's big decision

After the offseason overhaul, Indiana’s Heat assembled a stacked 15-player roster to enter training camp around WNBA All-Star Catilin Clark.

In addition to hiring new coaches, Indiana has acquired seven new players from near the WNBA, including veterans from Dewanna Bonner, Natasha Howard and Sophie Cunningham.

Three 2025 WNBA draft picks fill the return core of Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.

After the release of Yvonne Ejim, Bree Hall and Jillian Alleyne, the active roster entered the final preseason of the craze with an 81-76 victory, down to 12 with an 81-76 victory.

According to IndyStar, the WNBA roster deadline has a cut left on Thursday, May 15, which is not easy.

Indiana fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) was at the Gatway Center Arena in College Park before the court-to-court game against Atlanta Dreams.

The candidates are very clear. Guards Jaelyn Brown and Forward Makayla Timpson each played Dream, who were the two players most likely to face layoffs before having a fever against Angel Reese and Chicago Sky in the regular season opener Saturday, May 17 at 3pm.

Brown, 26, led the WNBA for a year and played 14 games last season for the Dallas Wings. The multi-functional 6-foot-1 guard has a variety of offensive games, sizes that can guard multiple positions and are extra rebounds for that position. In three preseason games, she averaged 3.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals while hitting 4 of 15 shots from the field, while Deep's 1-5.

Timpson, 22, is No. 19 in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft. Her 6-foot-10 wingspan is an important asset to any team when it comes to defense and rebounding. Her fringe style playing with NCAA-leading scorer Ta'niya Latson makes her a long-term fit with Clark's assumptions. In the preseason, she averaged 5.0 points and 1.7 rebounds per game and shot four points in three games with 10 shooting percentage.

Indiana coach Stephanie White is tasked with dividing her hair between Brown and Tempson, which she bluntly calls “toughness.”

Asked about the final lineup after the Atlanta game, White said: “It was a tough job to compare these two, because they brought different aspects to our team and our game.”
