IATSE is providing assistance to members displaced by wildfires.
"If you or another member has been displaced by the bushfires, please contact your local office as soon as possible to let us know your/their situation," IATSE, the union representing behind-the-scenes workers, said in a release. Any temporary address and contact information we may have so that we can mobilize resources appropriately. "
It calls on members to donate money for needed items and to provide volunteer manpower where possible. The organization will send letters explaining how members can donate to those in need and where donation points can be found.
IATSE Local 892 will be open Saturday morning and volunteers are needed. Registration form shared.
The Directors Guild Foundation, in partnership with the Motion Picture and Television Foundation, announced Tuesday that it will provide immediate financial assistance to members affected by the fires. The relief fund was established with a $250,000 grant from DGF, and the Directors Guild of America donated an additional $100,000 to meet the needs of other members.
"I am inspired by the strength and determination of the DGA community to help each other in times of great need," Todd Holland, president of the Directors Guild Foundation, said in a statement. "This fund will provide critical assistance directly to impacted DGA members. resources to help them begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragedy.”
The Producers Guild has pledged $300,000 in relief funding. The association has partnered with the Entertainment Community Fund to establish a dedicated fund to support film, television and emerging media producers affected by the fires. The Guild will donate a portion of the net proceeds from the Producers Guild Awards to the fund.
The Animation Guild, which represents animation artists, writers, technicians and production workers, also offers a range of resources. Local 80, which represents film production, craft services, maritime, first responders and warehouse workers, has opened its Burbank stage as a relief shelter, the association said.
With crew members and assistants devastated by the fire, Rookie writer Liz Alper put together a list of crew members affected by the fire and a fund table where people could donate.
The Costume Designers Guild will provide clothing to all union members affected by the fire on Sunday, January 12th from 8:30 to 5:00 pm at 3191 W. Magnolia Blvd in Burbank. They are still looking for volunteers as well as donations of toiletries and underwear.
The Motion Picture and Television Foundation's emergency helpline is 323-634-3888. "MPTF is committed to providing financial assistance and a variety of social services to active and retired members of the entertainment community in times of need," the organization said.
"MPTF social workers are currently answering hotline calls and will respond as soon as possible. In addition to providing financial assistance, MPTF will provide case management services to support industry members through the many federal and state and other resources that may be available to them," MPTF stated in its website reads.
The Cinema Audio Society, the mixing community's honor society, donated $50,000 to the Entertainment Community Fund. in a statement typeit said: "The Motion Picture Audio Association, as an organization and as individual members, stands with our community during this extremely difficult time. We are saddened and deeply saddened as wildfires sweep through our city, impacting the lives and livelihoods of our members. Attention. The Association is committed to helping our members through this tragedy.”
It continued: "Their strong reputation for direct impact will help us to quickly support our beloved industry during this ongoing crisis. CAS will work closely with other industry organizations, including film sound editors, to help us wherever possible members provide support.”
Los Angeles sports teams have jointly donated $8 million to assist local disaster relief efforts. Teams such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Lakers will also be distributing items such as clothing, hygiene products, school supplies and sneakers at Dodger Stadium, SoFi Stadium and BMO Stadium on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Fires continue to rage across the Los Angeles area, destroying hundreds of buildings and prompting mass evacuations. Pacific Palisades and Malibu have burned more than 15,000 acres since the fires started Tuesday morning, while in Altadena the Eaton Fire has burned more than 10,000 acres. The third fire, the Hurst Fire, has burned more than 700 acres at the top of the San Fernando Valley.
