Real Madrid's new signature Dean Huijsen said he wanted to "like Sergio Ramos", praising the former Madrid captain as his "idol", while admitting he had spoken with coach Xabi Alonso about his role in the team.
Madrid signed a five-year contract last month to confirm the arrival of 20-year-old central defender Huijsen, who is now in international duties in Spain's UEFA National League semi-finals with France before Thursday.
After training with Spain on Monday, Huijsen listed Madrid Legend Ramos, who won many trophies with the club in 16 years and won three major matches in his country.
"I tried to crave like Sergio Ramos. He was my idol," Huijsen said. "For me, he was very complete, he had everything. In terms of leadership, goals, personality and personality."
Born in Amsterdam but raised in Málaga, Huijsen enjoyed a rapid rise over the past 12 months and starred in Bournemouth in the Premier League, making his debut in Spain in March before signing Madrid.
He played for Malaga in the youth class before signing with Juventus, lending Roma and joining Bournemouth in July 2024.
“My plan is to stay in Bournemouth for two years and then grow and figure out what to do next,” he said. “But things are moving very quickly, faster than I expected.”
Madrid is in the midst of a reshaping of defense after a disappointing season, with Heysen already joining right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and the club also signed a deal for left-back Álvaro Carreras.
Huijsen said he had spoken with new coach Xabi Alonso. New coach Xabi Alonso took over his plan from Carlo Ancelotti after Madrid ended his campaign without a major trophy, and the club will compete in the Club World Cup this month.
"We've talked about the team and his ideas and the projects," Huijsen said. "Of course we want to win the game again and I'm sure we'll...I don't think it's not sunk yet. But I'm in Madrid and I'll do my best."
In Madrid, Huyson joined a dressing room full of stars, and despite this, it has not been gelled this season.
Ancelotti leaves - in charge of Brazil - the club is second in Laliga, losing the final of Copa del Rey and being eliminated in the Champions League quarterfinals, setting a record four straight games Classic Defeat Barcelona.
“I want to do my best,” Huyson said. “(Kylian) Mbappé, Vinícius (Júnior), Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham, are all people under attack – they are the best.”
Madrid will begin the club World Cup sport against Al Hilal in Miami, Florida on June 18, before playing Pachuca and Salzburg on June 26 on June 22.
