(This story contains spoilers for "earthquake shifts", the finale of Season 8 911)
Will Howard "Chirlpool" Han (Kenneth Choi) replace the late Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) as the next captain of LAFD Station 118?
It seems like everyone's lips problem in the eighth finale 911this buzzing ABC program drama ended Thursday’s most heartbreaking season so far. The 118-year-old surviving member and Bobby's WoW Sergeant since Bobby was injured in a Biolab explosion and died after being accompanied by a deadly CCHF strain in the "Lab Rats". Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett) - has been losing the seemingly unshakable center of personal and professional life.
In continuing to respond to quirky calls from LA residents, each character has been trying to deal with Bobby’s death in his own way, resulting in some expected tension and friction between once-closely connected groups. Athena, in particular, has always had an understandable resentment towards the chimney, and Bobby chose to save herself in the lab, but the two were forced to work together in a massive casualty incident.
In the finale, the explosion triggered the structural collapse of high-rise apartment buildings in downtown Los Angeles, leaving hundreds of residents trapped under the ruins. Athena responds to the riot call from the apartment building, narrowly missing out on being trapped in debris at the end of the penultimate episode. She jumps around and saves Graham aka the infamous grocery stores "Sam Roach" and Donnie (Adam Hagenbuch), who quarrel with each other in the basement laundry when the explosion occurs. After learning that Athena was leaning towards several victims in the building, Chimney volunteered to help her despite the breakdown of the nature of their personal relationship.
Meanwhile, Eddie (Ryan Guzman), a former member of 118, returns to Los Angeles for Bobby’s funeral, and is planning to return to El Paso, where he will start training at the local fire department the next morning. During an impromptu barbecue with his former team, Eddie received firefighter helmets and voting gear as a touching temporary gift. While packing up, Eddie and his teenage son Christopher (Gavin McHugh) see the wreckage of the collapsed building on local news.
Eddie strolls the scene like a runway model in his LAFD gear, ready to help his former team in any way necessary. Eddie takes a page out of Bobby's book, reaches the top floor of the building across the street from the apartment building, and cleverly fires a gun to create a zip code between the two buildings. Eddie's quick thinking brought Buck (Oliver Stark), Anirudh Pisharody) and an elderly man named Flint to safety, just as the floor of an apartment building began to fall from under their feet. Eddie, Buck and Ravi then break down the wall of debris with Hen and another firefighter to reach Athena and Chimney, who are trapped in the basement by Graham and Donnie.
But as firefighters began to remove debris that trapped two victims, they found Graham had been bleeding inside since the building collapsed. Graham admits that he essentially sacrificed himself to help save Donnie - saving the Chimney in "Labor Rats" is not a subtle thing with Bobby sacrificing himself to save the Chimney in "Labor Rats", but Chimney refuses to let Graham meet the same fate.
Thanks to some excellent caregiver work (and pure luck), the Chimney was able to revive Graham, who was immediately taken to the hospital for surgery. After Athena said he was responsible for keeping Graham alive on the one hand, Chimney humbly insisted that it was a team effort. "You know, that once drove (Bobby) crazy," Athena told Chimney during an emotional heart conversation outside the collapsed building. “He always says you never give yourself enough credibility, but he knows you are a smart, talented, capable caregiver and an excellent leader. He will be proud of you. so Be proud of you. ”
Earlier that day, on Eddie's grill, Buck revealed that he applied for the transfer from 118 to 118 because "it's just a number now" without Bobby. Hen (Aisha Hinds) explained that she didn't want to be a captain because she thought it would be another obligation as a wife and mother. As their interim Captain Gerrard (Brian Thompson) leaves the station again as consultant for firefighters' display Popularno obvious favorite can replace Bobby.
Chimney takes Athena's words in mind and steps into the much-needed leadership role of the fire department (at least temporarily). The Chimney made the rest of his team stop on their tracks, and then either of them could be changed, and when Eddie said he was looking for a flight back to El Paso in the morning, he snatched Eddie's phone from his hands.
“No one moves, no one stays in Texas,” Chimney mentioned Buck and Eddie in their passionate captain-like speech after Gerald said goodbye. "This is our fire station. It's 118. It's not just a number - it's us. You're right.
"Bobby died and allowed me to live, which made me unable to fully express it, but the truth is...he would do it for any of us. You know, he knows, he knows, he knows, he knows, he knows, he knows, he's going to work every day, there's a chance that one or more of us won't take it home, and his job is here except everything, because we're standing here all the time now." This team, us It's his legacy. So we can miss him, we can mourn him, and even curse his name, but we are no Disrespect him by throwing away what he built It's here. So you hung up the turnout, took the shower, went home, you got some rest because we were all going to meet each other on the next shift It's here,,,,, Together. Do you understand? ”
At the end of the finale, Athena is preparing to sell the House of Dreams where she and Bobby plan to live and grow up, presumably because the house is no longer like a house without Bobby, because the house is no longer like a home.
When Athena heads to the hospital to meet with new members of her extended family, this episode briefly introduces the personal life of Bobby’s beloved crew member:
