Chelsea has been the Women's Super League champion for the sixth consecutive time. There are two games available to spare, and the Blues were crowned again on Wednesday after a 1-0 victory over Manchester United after Lucy Bronze's decisive goal.
The league win was their eighth victory, which made the league victory even more amazing after leaving European Swordsman Lyon in the summer, after leaving manager Sonia Bompastor's first season in England.
So far, the unbeaten domestic season (so far) also means the Blues have a chance to be three times away and three times away after winning the League Cup and now the league title. They face Manchester United in the FA Cup final next month.
Here are five aspects that stimulated Bompastor's Chelsea to such an amazing victory.
Despite having only a few weeks in charge, Bompastor started her career in England the best way. Winning the first nine games of the season, breaking many records at that time. A 1-1 draw against Leicester City ended their victory, but the Blues continued to remain unbeaten (more on that later). Winning the first nine games not only made a statement, but they were unable to hone their wins later this season, providing much-needed mats when they settled on the draw.
The quick start of WSL is very important. Arsenal have both started their campaigns this season, last season at Manchester United and Manchester City and were unable to overturn the deficit in 22 seasons. Until last season, Chelsea won the league with three points, no team won the league with two losses, but only three championships. They ensured a poor goal victory.
Chelsea learned their lessons and made sure they started 2024-25 quickly, not only sending warning signs to other clubs, but the dominant champions are as ruthless as ever - but it also keeps them perfectly unbeaten.
Despite the loss of the Women's Champions League, including Barcelona's 8-2 overall humility in the semifinals, Baumpester's side remained unbeaten in 20 league matches, down scored only in three draws. Leicester City, West Ham United and Brighton and Hove Albion are the only teams to earn points this season, bringing Bruce close to record points.
Previously, Chelsea needed 58 points to win the league, but after defeating Manchester United on Wednesday, coupled with Arsenal's failure to beat Aston Villa, the Blues won the championship with 54 points. They can still finish the season with record points, with two games yet to be played. Two wins will bring them to 60, beating the current record (58).
This title is always Chelsea will lose. They have won seven previous titles and have been the only winners since 2019. Despite the changes, they are still the teams that beaten in England. The team is full of players who know what it takes to win, and so is under the manager. The serial winners are nothing more than perfection, and this season is related to it.
Chelsea's title sport is excellent, but Arsenal, Manchester United and Human City all dropped points in key matches. Arsenal started slowly this season and despite winning streaks after winning streaks, the gap was still not able to be narrowed. Manchester United's unnecessary draw also means they are behind the roadside, with City evacuating the top three after a mid-season injury crisis.
Coupled with Chelsea's ability to win key wins with opponents in the top four, including Wednesday's victory against Manchester United, it means the Blues quickly advance. Although they have some small ic plays against low-ranking teams, they avoid slipping when it matters most.
Chelsea is the only top four this season to beat other league leaders twice. In fact, this is the first Chelsea to play a double game in the city and Arsenal. Last season, Chelsea lost 4-1 and Arsenal won 2-1 this season, the first time they won the game at the N5 Stadium. They also lost last season and attracted Manchester City. 1-0 in Kingsmeadow. This was overturned by a 2-0 victory at home, showing that the caregiver can drive away Chelsea’s biggest demon.
The depth of Chelsea's squad is simply shocking. The side quality is deeper than any team in Europe, which means that when the dependents face injuries - including Sam Kerr's absence throughout the season, Lauren James' two situations beside him, and damage to Grandmaster Reiten and Nathalie Björn, can be pulled out from other options. Although there is no XI preference, few gaps are obvious.
Chelsea's injuries have attracted little attention because of their squad depth. By contrast, Manchester City ruled out four key players at one point, which completely derailed their season and undermined the chances of a second WSL title. They finished second last season with a championship score but were in the goal difference. Now, they are 15 points worse than Chelsea.
While spinning hindered some connections and prevented relationships from further development, at the end of the season, the Blues fought against it in the final steps of the domestic Cup, the Champions League knockouts and the league’s final steps. The fatigue started, but Bompastor was able to ensure that he was able to keep his fitness as high as possible among as many players as possible, swapping full players to keep her team ticking.
It was a seamless transition when Bompastor took over the helm in the summer. The French coach, a self-described painless loser and serial champion, asked the players for a lot from the start. She will tell you. The training sessions are as intense as the Cup finals and require full effort day after day.
"She's asking for it," midfielder Erin Cuthbert told ESPN in November. "This is the manager I really like. She knows what she wants, she is not settled down, she doesn't like the laziness in training, she doesn't allow you to sit and relax for 10 minutes. Not letting her relax, I really like that she knows exactly what she wants."
The new, intense training, while not far from the attitude of former manager Emma Hayes, does mean that players cannot relax, which shows that American bosses may be more generous now. Cuthbert said the couple had similar styles, but the fosterer asked her players to be more technically executed and focused more on accumulating from behind.
"She requires a lot of technical execution for everyone, and I don't think she'll ever be sure of what she wants to achieve," she said. "(Bompastor) certainly requires high-intensity training; if you can't train in training, you can't play in the game."
Both managers have been successful in the Blues, and Bompastor's strong style undoubtedly created a winning formula in her first season. The evidence is clear, the changes she brings to the team – although they don’t see the team reaching the Champions League final – effectively earning them domestic glory and winning two trophies.
They will have a chance to finish three high notes on May 18, when Chelsea faced Manchester United again in Wembley's FA Cup final.
