The attack on Ben Gurion International Airport was hours before senior Israeli cabinet ministers were ready to vote on whether to strengthen the country's military operations in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, the Army began to call up thousands of reserves in hopes of wider operations in Gaza, officials said.

Missile launches launched air strike sirens in several areas of Israel on Sunday. According to videos shared by Israeli media, a cloud of smoke could be seen at the airport. Passengers were heard yelling to cover up.

It is not clear whether the projectile landed on a field near the road leading to the airport parking lot, whether it was a missile or debris, or whether it was from Israel's air defense system. It left a deep crater on the ground, with dirt spreading on nearby roads.

Israel vows to respond to airport attacks

Police said air, road and rail traffic were stopped after the attack. The Israel Airport Authority said traffic had recovered for about an hour. Israeli care worker David Adom said four people were injured.

Houthi military spokesman Brig. General Yahya Saree said in a video statement that the group fired treble ballistic missiles to the airport.

Hamas militants attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians and taking hostages of 251, and the Hoti rebels have been firing fire on Israel since the war with Gaza broke out. Israel said 59 people remained in Gaza, although about 35 people were said to have died. Most Houthi missiles are mostly intercepted, although some have penetrated Israel’s missile defense system, causing damage.

Israeli rebels against Yemen and the United States, and Israel's top allies also fought back against the rebels, launching a strike against them in March.

Israeli Defense Minister Katz vowed to retaliate against the airport attack: "Whoever hurts us, we will hurt them seven times."

Israeli minister to vote for expanding the war in Gaza

An Israeli official said the influential security cabinet will meet Sunday night to vote on plans to expand the battle. A military official said the country is calling for thousands of reserves. Both officials spoke under anonymous conditions consistent with the regulations.

In an interview with Israeli Army Radio, the far-right Israeli national security minister Itama Ben-Gvir said he wanted to see the "strong" expansion of the war, but did not reveal the details about the new plan that would be needed.

"We need to increase our intensity and continue until we achieve a comprehensive victory. We have to win all of it," he said, demanding that Israel bomb "food and electricity supply" in the Gaza Strip.

More than 18 months after the war broke out, as the humanitarian crisis in the territory deepened, plans to escalate the battle in Gaza broke out.

Israel stopped the entry of goods into Gaza in early March as part of its efforts to negotiate with the militant group Hamas on the terms of the new ceasefire. This put the territory of 2.3 million people into the worst humanitarian crisis since the war began.

An eight-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas calmed down the battle and released the Israeli hostages in March. Israel resumed its strike against Gaza on March 18 and occupied a piece of coastal areas. According to Hamas-operated health ministry, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed since the fight resumed.

Battle delays in Gaza

Palestinian medical staff said at least seven parents and two children, including two children aged 2 and 4, were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the southern and central Gaza Strip. When asked about the strike, the Israeli military did not comment directly.

The Israeli military said on Sunday that two soldiers were killed in the battle in Gaza, killing soldiers to six since the resumption of combat in March.

Since the war began, Israeli offensives killed more than 52,000 people in Gaza, many of whom were women and children, and according to Palestinian health officials, they did not distinguish between combatants and civilians.

This battle usually displaces more than 90% of the Gaza population multiple times. Hunger has always been common, and food shortages have caused robbery.
