"Housewives School" writer and director interview

"Housewives School" is a popular Iceland drama. Last year, the first appearance on the public broadcasting company RúV. It is the main competitor of this year's Geborg Nordic series script award. Essence

This series has turned Hekla into Hekla, and after the latter has recovered since his teens, he studied at the housewife school (the real facility in Reykjavik), with Make your daughter recover from foster care. But she and a few roles can't help asking if they are learning weaving, baking and cleaning so that any of them is healthier?

Through common struggle, these women found their strength between each other and formed a community that enables all their capabilities.

"Housewives School" is directed by Arnórpálmiaarnarson and is written with Jóhannafriðrikasæmundóttir. It was produced by Glassriver's ARNBJöRGHAFLIðAdóttir, which is an OK Berlinale series player "Black Sands".

Pálmiaarnarson and friðrikasæmundsdóttir and type Before this year's festival, their performance, influence in real life,

A few years ago, there was a documentary about the housewife college. Do you cooperate with the factory of this series in any way? Is the documentary influential for your performance?

A few years ago, we watched a documentary about the school and had a deep knowledge of its history. The school was founded in 1942. At first, it taught the young female family conference skills (cooking, cleaning and weaving), while men were engaged in occupations in male -led labor. The fact that the school is still active today fascinated us. We think this is a convincing environment, discussing the changes in social characters and whether such institutions are still related.

In order to create a true narrative, we visited the school during the writing process to understand its daily life, structure and unique atmosphere. These interviews inspired the settings of the series, and we even filmed on the spot, so that we can remember the scenes of a specific space.

How do you divide responsibilities when you develop and perform?

Once we chose the school as an environment, we began to explore the theme of our excitement-rich gender, gender character, and the correlation of schools in the world today. From there, we focused on creating a rich role and developing detailed background stories for students and employees.

Throughout the process, we cooperated. We wrote the treatment method and spent time deliberately to ensure that each element in the story remains stable before continuing to write an article. Solving a 30-minute drama format is a unique challenge-balance multiple characters and sub-maps, while maintaining story tension and influence.

When we involve scripts, we allocated our responsibilities and continuously exchanged drafts. In the process of continuing, we provide feedback and improve the plot. This iterative process enables us to strengthen various plots and the entire series. In the end, the collaboration has worked hard to ensure that the final product has cohesion, attractive and authenticity, and creation of vision we set.

Can you briefly talk about the local TV industry of Iceland? If it is hit in Iceland, can the series be successful? Still need to be broadcast in other regions?

In the past 15 years, Iceland has developed rapidly. In the past, only one or two series was made each year, many of which were sketching. Traditionally, Iceland's film production is concentrated on the story film, and has produced many famous movies for many years.

After the success of the "trapped" in 2017, the landscape has begun to change significantly. The landscape has attracted international attention and has attracted greater interest in Iceland TV. Today, Iceland produces 3-5 major series each year, and many of them are jointly produced or funded by international partners. This cooperation enables Iceland's story to attract wider audience while maintaining higher production value.

However, "Housewives School" is not a large budget series. Broadcasting company Rúv especially wants a local exhibition that does not rely on foreign financing or gifts. This allows us to tell a story that is rooted in Icelandic culture freely.

After the first appearance at the beginning of last year, what was the reaction of the show?

The series has been greatly welcomed in Iceland, and has resonated with local audiences through its related themes and roles. Although international success will be a reward and is always welcomed, we are proud of this series of pure Icelandic stories. It is not necessarily attracting global audiences for a series of successful series here, but establishing a connection with other regions in other regions is an additional reward that can increase its influence and influence.
