Hikers have been missing for weeks in Sierra Nevada in the California Mountains

A Georgia woman has been missing for weeks while hiking in the Sierra Nevada, California, living in a cabin that is inaccessible to vehicles due to snowflakes.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office said the family of Tiffany Slaton, a 27-year-old woman from Jeffersonville, Georgia, reported on April 29 that they had not contacted her for the past nine days.

During the investigation, authorities said they were able to confirm that she met on April 20 at Lake Huntington, Nevada, in the California Mountains, about 65 miles east of Fresno.

Four days later, she had seen it at the old Cresman grocery store about 20 miles west of the lake. After that, the deputies were unable to track her location.

In early May, a comprehensive search operation was underway in the mountainous areas. Deputies said they searched nearly 600 square miles, covering areas from mono to Wishon reservoir, as well as Pine Flat Lake to Auberry.

But Snowpack prevents search operations from happening on Kaiser Pass. Deputies said they fled the helicopters in the area but could not find any trace of Slaton.

On Wednesday, the snow plow cleared Kaiser Pass and allowed Christopher Gutierrez, owner of vermilion Valley Resort, to enter his property so he could prepare for the summer.

When he did this, Gutierrez, who knew the ongoing search, found Slaton in the rental cabin.

"We saw the door open and I saw some shoes there, like, 'Okay, okay, just a hiker decided to catch us the night before in the snowstorm," Gutierrez said in a media briefing Wednesday afternoon. "Once we started getting there, Tiffany came and she popped up and the headlight was worn on the headlight. So she popped up, without saying a word, just ran up, all she wanted was a hug."

Gutierrez brought Slaton to the pass for a representative and medical staff meeting. They said she was dehydrated but healthy. She was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Slaton's parents will travel to the area in the next few days and are told their daughter has been found.

"It's hard to stand your tears and the excitement in the middle of shopping to get a call from Tiffany," her father said.

“I just grabbed someone and said, ‘Can I hug you?’ I did. “She was just a close person and I needed to hug someone. ”

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said several cases have survived in the Sierra Mountains in Nevada in the past, but that has never happened.

"Two days, nine days. It's amazing," said Tony Botti, a spokesman for the Fresno County Sheriff's Office. "But three weeks, it's unheard of."

Gutierrez said he left a locked cabin for the situation, increasing his chances of survival.

He called Slaton's arrival at the cabin "miraculous" and said she had taken an uncomfortable trail.
