Dyson Daniels was named the NBA's most progressive player on Wednesday, making huge progress in scoring, rebounding and assists, rebounding and assists.

Daniels, 22, led the lead with voter Ivica Zubac and Detroit Pistons' Cade Cunningham, 44 votes and 332 points in the vote. Zubak ranked second with 23 votes and 186 points, while Cunningham ranked third with 15 votes and 122 points.

Denver Nuggets guard Christian Braun and Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves are in the top five.

Daniels, who also voted last week for Evan Mobley's defense of the year, became a productive starter for the Eagles after a trade in Atlanta on July 6.

Daniels is nicknamed The Great Barrier Thief, which is his roots and defensive ability in Australia - leading the NBA with 229 steals, the most in a season since 1995-96 for Gary Payton since 1995-96, with his league-high 3.0 steals being the highest average since 1990-91 by Alvin Robertson in 3.0.

"You have to separate yourself somehow, and I did that on the defensive end of the floor," Daniels said.

Before being traded to Atlanta, Daniels was known for his defensive performance. Injuries and other industries helped thrive for the 6-foot-7 Daniels, complementing the score on Trae Young while delivering impressive all-around output.

Daniels averaged a career-high 14.1 points per game, improving his average score by 8.3 while having a career-high average rebound (5.9) and assists (4.4). His shooting percentage has also increased from 43.5% in New Orleans' first two seasons to 49.3% this season.

Daniels has been the fifth player since 1973-74, reaching at least 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals, joining Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Michael Ray Richardson and Robertson.

Hawks coach Quin Snyder lobbied Daniels as the league's highest defensive player, but also noted the overall progress of the Young Guard.

"I think his ability is as effective as he is on the ball, and you see and feel that," Snyder said. "I also think he has the ability to drive the ball. So, for me, those two things are his aggressiveness. You have to be fearless in order to be aggressive. So, I think maybe I want to try to instill something in a way, the biggest thing we want to try to communicate with Dyson, we are not afraid to make mistakes."

The Hawks won Daniels, forward Larry Nance Jr., center Cody Zeller, 2025 first-round pick and Murray's 2027 conditional first-round 2027.

Daniels' direct influence and draft picks made Atlanta a success. The deal is not enough to save general manager Landry Fields, who was fired on April 21. The Hawks won the game 40-42 and beat the playoffs 0-2 in the game.

"I think we're really showing growth this year, obviously we haven't gotten where we want it, there's nowhere to get close to it," Daniels said. "But we can definitely make some noise next year, and I'm looking forward to it."

Daniels was the second hawk to win the Most Progressive Player Award and joined Alan Henderson in 1997-98.

The award is voted by a global group of 100 writers and broadcasters who covered the league and voted shortly after the regular season.
