A Hawaii judge denied a doctor's bail, allegedly he tried to kill his wife, while the two hiked on the Honolulu trail in March.
Anesthesiologist Dr. Gerhardt Konig, 46, was charged with second-degree murder while trying to kill his wife on March 24. His bail was previously set at $5 million.
Konig pleaded not guilty to murder.
Conniger's attorney argued in a motion that bail should be set on "reasonable payments" as the defendant has no previous criminal history. Prosecutors opposed the bail plea, saying Koenig “faces a realistic prospect of life imprisonment” and noted that he tried to escape the area after alleged attacks.
Prosecutors also wrote in court that Koenig allegedly called his adult son after the attack and told him he was "trying to kill your stepmother."

Fox News Digital State's previous court documents, Konig's wife told police that her husband "was close to the edge and asked her to take a selfie with him." Konig's wife refused, telling the police that she would not want to "take pictures with him, get close to the edge" and "start to walk backwards."

When Konig's wife started to go back, Konig started yelling and allegedly pushed her into the nearby bushes. After he allegedly left Konig, he "picked up a rock and hit the head about 10 times while also grabbing the back of his hair and smashing her face to the ground," according to the affidavit.
Konig's wife starts screaming for help and tries to climb to two other hikers. Konig then pulled out two syringes from his back and tried to "use them on her", the affidavit said.
A hiker identified as "Amanda" in court documents told police she found konig on the top of her wife and hit her in the head with a rock.
"He tried to kill me," the prosecutor said.

In court documents Monday, prosecutors accused Konig of storing needles, syringes and vials labeled as anesthetic drugs. Prosecutors said Koenig's wife found her husband's Fanny bag, which contained a vial and syringe, adding that Maui police sent the items to the Honolulu Police Department.

At a hearing Tuesday, Koenig's attorney Thomas Otake said it was not uncommon for doctors to keep the drug at home.
"It is not uncommon for doctors to practice medicine to take drugs," Otake said.
Before the judge rejected his request, Otake demanded a bail between $100,000 and $200,000.
A Maui Health representative had previously told Fox News that Koenig was suspended from working at an independent contractor at the Maui Memorial Medical Center.
