"Grey Anatomy" star Kate Burton joins RSC's "Constant Wife"

Kate Burton will debut at Royal Shakespeare Company in a new adaptation of Laura Wade's new adaptation The Constant Wife, which was nominated for Tony to play Tony's lead role as Constance on Broadway.

Burton, Emmy, is nominated for his roles "Grey Anatomy" and "Scandal" in ABC hits, and will play Mrs. Culver, the mother of Constance Middleton. "Game of Thrones" alum Rose Leslie has previously announced that he will play the role of Constance in his RSC debut.

Maugham, scheduled in London in the 1920s, was Constance Middleton, a social woman who discovered her husband’s romance with her best friend but refused to play the role of a deceptive wife or a mocking woman. Instead, she made an unconventional and competent response that challenged the rigid social expectations of the era, making both husband and society’s double standards put on the table. Wade's reimagining of this subversive comedy of contemporary audiences, while also taking the central character of "a 1920s heroine with an absolutely modern spirit."

Burton told type. “Laura Wade cut Maugham’s original script with the nimble wit of razors, and her adaptation brings a distinctive modern meaning to the play, and I think the audience will really respond.”

Martha Culver and Emma McDonald ("Emma McDonald" (Marie-Louise Durham) are also Martha Culver and Emma McDonald (Emma McDonald), and also Amy Morgan ("Beyond Heaven," "Diet No Time"). Returned RSC veterans include John Middleton, Raj Baja Bajaj ("The Buddha in the Suburbs", "The Murder Eve") as Bernard Kersal, Mark Meadows ("The Elephant of the Magician") and Daniel Millar (daniel Millar) ("twelfth nirg").

The work marks the reunion of director Tamara Harvey, who served as co-artistic director and playwright Laura Wade, who was behind Olivier’s award-winning collaboration “Home, I’m Dear”.

Burton, daughter of legendary actor Richard Burton and actor and director Sybil Christopher, noted the personal significance of joining the prestigious company: “Making my RSC debut under Tamara Harvey's direction is a true privilege. There's a special resonance in performing in Stratford-upon-Avon, knowing my father and mother trod the boards with the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, which of course went on to Become the RSC. As it is my father’s centenary and it feels like a full circle moment and I’m honored to be a part of this amazing company.”

The entire cast unveiling begins at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from June 20 to August 2, which is a rehearsal.

"I'm happy to welcome our company's 'staunch wife' to the rehearsal room to bring together internationally renowned talent, new voices to make their RSC debut and some familiar faces," Harvey said. "We're pleased to welcome Kate Burton, who was nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of Constance on Broadway in 2005 and now he's back to the drama as Constance's mother, Mrs. Culver. I can't wait to discover that her experience of the drama will bring to the room."
