Connor McDavid is arguably the brightest star in the NHL.

The Edmonton Oilers Captain is a four-time NHL All-Star.

He is also a prolific scorer, winning Art Ross Trophy five times when leading the NHL in the regular season.

McDavid also has similarities with hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. McDavid and Gretzky are the only two players named the NHL MVP by unanimous vote. Although Gretzky is often called the "Great Man", he considers McDavid the greatest NHL player.

"He is undoubtedly the best player in hockey," Gretzky said in his cameo on ESPN's "Pat Mcafee Show."

"The selfless young man. He loves playing in Edmonton and loves being the captain of the Oilers. He desperately wants the Stanley Cup, and that's what he wants and cares most about. It's very good for us, it's very good for the City of Edmonton. This year. He's got the goal of winning in the Four Nations Cup in overtime."

For the second consecutive year, the Oilers and the Florida Panthers met in the Stanley Cup final. McDavid and the Oilers competed in the first game of the series Wednesday night.

The 4-3 victory was a win for Edmonton, down 3-1 at some point in the game. But the Oilers won three unresolved goals for a statement of winning on their own ice.

After the third phase tied the game to the third phase, overtime is required to determine the winner of the first game.

When the Oilers had a one-man advantage, McDavid made the hockey past Panthers goalkeeper Sergei Bobrovsky by making a beautiful saucer pass to teammate Leon Draisaitl, who flew to the Nets.

Gretzky, an NHL analyst at TNT Broadcasting, predicts how McDavid's assist will set up teammate Mattias Ekholm to ultimately become the third phase of Wednesday's game against the Panthers.

"They are choking them. They're doing very smart. They're playing Rick Tockett's defense. They're heading in the middle." "They're giving them outside. Conner will have to sway it around the net or stop and hit the late guy because they cut everything off."

Gretzky then admitted that his prediction was "luck" and was praising McDavid.

"He's the best player in the world," Gretzky said. "He knows what he's doing. I'm just lucky with that statement."

The second game is scheduled for Friday at Rogers Square in Edmonton. The series moved to Florida for 3 and 4.
