Music industry responds to wildfires

Last week, the Recording Academy and MusiCares launched Los Angeles Fire Rescue with a $1 million donation. The letter said they had distributed $2 million in emergency aid as a result of the additional donations.

Universal Music Group, one of the three major record labels, has canceled all Grammy-related events. These include the annual Artist Showcase on Saturday, and the Grammy Week after-party on Sunday. Instead, it will redirect those funds toward wildfire relief.

BMG announced on Instagram that it will no longer host a pre-Grammy party, and a representative for Warner Music Group confirmed to The Associated Press that the major label will not be hosting the party this year and will instead be "reallocating funds to support related events." Earlier this week, WMG and the Blavatnik Family Foundation Social Justice Fund committed $1 million to fire relief and recovery efforts in the Los Angeles area.

MusiCares, an organization that helps music professionals in need of financial, personal or medical assistance, hosted its annual People of the Year benefit gala at the Los Angeles Convention Center just days before the Grammy Awards. The 2025 gala will still be held on January 31, this year to honor the Grateful Dead and further its commitment to wildfire relief.

"We will be making a special call for donations to support our wildfire relief efforts during our upcoming Person of the Year selection," according to an email the Recording Academy sent to its members on Tuesday.

Where are the Grammy Awards held?

The 2025 Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The ongoing Palisades fire last week forced the NBA and NHL to reschedule games between the Lakers and Kings at the same venue.

“Postponing events ensures resources are not diverted from Southern California wildfire response efforts,” the NBA said in a release.

2025 Grammy Nominations

The nominees include a long list of top music stars who will compete for trophies at next month's Grammy Awards.
