Google According to new SEC filings, $8.27 million was paid for CEO Sundar Pichai’s personal safety in 2024.

The figure has risen nearly 22% from $6.78 million in 2023, partly due to the numerous security measures taken during Pichai’s busy year.

"In 2024, Sundar's safety arrangements include residential safety and consulting fees, safety monitoring services, automotive and driver services, and personal safety during all travel periods," Alphabet's 2025 agent statement reads. "We believe that these arrangements and costs are reasonable, appropriate, necessary, and in the best interests of Letters and its shareholders as they reduce the risk to our business."

The document goes on to say: “We do not consider these additional security arrangements to be a personal benefit to Santa, as they arise due to the nature of his employment responsibilities.”

Google declined to comment.

As Pichai travels extensively in 2024, it often talks with world leaders about technological advancements, including artificial intelligence. Google (which increased revenue by 12% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the previous year) is the center of the AI arms race, and its position in the search market may be threatened by AI competition and installation regulations.

Pichai's total compensation is $10.73 million for fiscal 2024, according to agent data, including stock rewards. That was $8.8 million from the previous year.

It is unclear how Google changed Pichai’s security spending in 2025, but at least 12 S&P 500 companies have increased their security costs as more companies murdered UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson in December.

According to the documents, in addition to Pichai, Alphabet's legal director Kent Walker received nearly $30.2 million in damages last year. That was $27.3 million the year before. Alphabet's new head of finance Anat Ashkenazi is totaling about $50 million, including nearly $10 million in bonuses.

The average total compensation for full-time Google employees is $331,894, a 5% increase from the previous year's average of $315,531.
