Glenn Maxwell retires from ODI cricket, but T20 World Cup Eyes Cricket News

Maxwell, known as one of the most powerful batsmen in the game, has been with Australia for a one-day career.

Explosive Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell announced his retirement from one-day cricket but he will continue to stay in Twenty20 cricket at next year's World Cup.

The 36-year-old, who played 149 times in the International (ODI), exploded 3,990 times, said he began to feel physical losses from 50 games.

"I feel like I've made the team feel a little frustrated about the body's response," Maxwell said on Monday.

“I had a great chat with (selected chair) George Bailey and I asked him what he thought he was going to do.

“We talked about the 2027 World Cup (50 times) and I said to him: ‘I don’t think I’m going to do that, it’s time to start planning for the people I’m in and make my own position.”

“I don’t want to stick to just a few series and play football for almost selfish reasons.”

His final match was the Australian Champions League Trophy semifinal defeat of India in early March, and veteran Steve Smith also quit the format over 50 times.

Mercurial Maxwell had a strike rate of 126.70, the second highest strike rate in ODI cricket, where he fell for four hundred and 23 and a half centuries.

His scoring speed is second only to West India heavy hitter Andre Russell. Maxwell also has 77 wickets, his spinning footsteps.

ODI careers over the years

In a career full of many magical moments, perhaps his most memorable inning was at the 2023 World Cup against Mumbai Afghanistan, when he beat Australia 91-7 to catch up with 293 to win.

In high pressure, Maxwell fought severe cramps in the scorching heat and won control, hitting 201 balls from 128, giving his team a victory.

He has earned 179 runs in his 202 partnerships with Pat Cummins, who contributed just 12 after ranking 9th.

Australia continued to win the game, beating India's favorite in the final in Ahmedabad.

Maxwell is also a member of the Australian team that canceled the 2015 ODI World Cup.

"Glenn will be called one of the most dynamic players in the one-day tournament, playing a key role in two ODI World Cup wins," Bailey said.

“His natural talent and skill level is excellent. His energy on the court, his lack of evaluation of the ball and his ability to live long.

“What else stands out is his passion and commitment to playing for Australia.

"Luckily, he can still deliver Australia in the T20 format. Everything goes well and he will remain critical for the next 12 months as we build to the World Cup early next year."
