Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has been praised for celebrating his player off the court after tensions threatened the Laliga title after Thursday's 2-0 victory at Espanyol.
This is the second time in three years that Barcelona won the league in their city rivals, whose 2023 victory was damaged by family supporters, violated the court and chased the visiting players.
Flick ensured that there were no repetitions this time, and as the sprinkler device was opened, more and more security departments took control of his players.
“Flick is a gentleman,” Espanyol coach Manolo González talked about the actions of his peers after the match at the press conference. “He grabbed the players, drove them off the court and took them to the locker room.
“When they can celebrate inside (stay away from Espanyol fans) or next week, there is no point in generating something bigger.
"Two years ago, there was a mess here because there was no common sense. We have to congratulate Flick because he handled it well. He was a good coach and a gentleman."
After a tough night for family supporters, the full-time whistle was filled with tension as they approached the RCDE Stadium.
The game began with an ode to “suspend the game”, which briefly stopped the game after a supporter collided with fans outside the court after a supporter came on the court, causing more than a dozen injuries but not seriously injured.
Local police said the driver had been detained, but it was not clear whether the incident was an accident.
Lamine Yamal took the stunning left-foot strike earlier in the second half before Leandro Cabrera was sent to eliminate the teenager.
Fermín López won the victory during downtime, prompting the celebrations in the corner to anger Espanyol and at the end of the game led to a clash between the two groups of players.
"It's obvious on the court that we can't celebrate there," Frick said in a press conference. "Two years ago, I didn't want to have this, and it respects the fans here.
"We celebrated in the locker room, which was great, great. Players can do that."
The victory brought Barcelona's seven points far beyond the second game, second only to Real Madrid, the 28th time in their history to become the Spanish champion.
It also completed Flick's first domestic treble season at the club after the Spanish Super and Cup Cup successes, and the team will celebrate the open bus parade throughout the city on Friday.
"Go to celebrate," Flick's message to supporters. “Tomorrow I think I’ll stand behind and see what’s going to happen and love it.
"It's the greatest thing for me when I see people smiling. I hope everyone enjoys this parade tomorrow."
