Former Red Chili guitarist received a probation for crash and killed pedestrians

The former Red Chili former guitarist will not be jailed for a 2024 car accident that killed a man walking on a crosswalk in Alhambra, California.

Josh Klinghoffer, 45, was sentenced to one year of informal probation and 60 days of community labor on Wednesday at Alhambra Court. He also received a 12-month probation sentence, as well as required driver safety shifts and court-ordered compensation. Alhambra is located west of Los Angeles.

Family lawsuits Israeli Sanchez, 47, accused Sanchez of driving distracted when she was killed. Video released by a lawyer representing the victim's family shows that the crash on March 18, 2024, and the driver left the vehicle and kept in touch with the victim before police arrived.

The lawsuit does not accuse Klinghoffer of hits, as the video clearly shows the driver's tendency to hit people, but claims Klinghoffer didn't pay attention while driving. Klinghoffer's lawyer called it a "tragic accident" and said he worked completely with investigators.

"It was a tragic accident," attorney Andrew Brettler said in an earlier statement. "After the car hit a pedestrian, Josh stopped immediately, stopped, called 911, and waited until the police and ambulance arrived."

According to the lawsuit, Klinghoffer drives a black 2022 GMC Yukon without a license plate. The lawsuit alleges that the crash still captured instantly in video before the crash, the lawsuit said, showing the driver showing the driver on his phone or other device.

The lawsuit states: “He (Sanchez) stopped in the corner and made sure oncoming traffic was cleared and that his road was safe… (He) made eight big strides in the marked crosswalk before being hit and killed.

Sanchez suffered blunt force trauma and died from injuries less than three hours later. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

Klinghoffer played guitar with Red Chili Pepper from 2009 to 2019 and played with Pearl Jam and Jane's addiction.
