WASHINGTON - Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary, is an outstanding figure in the field of democratic politics, and the Biden administration has been leaving the party and registering as the Independent Party for many years.
Jean-Pierre’s publisher Hachette said Jean-Pierre “had no decision to be an independent decision.”
In her book Independence: A Broken White House Outside the Party Line, Jean-Pierre shares why Americans must transcend party to embrace the lives of independents. "The book is scheduled to be released in October.
Jean-Pierre's decision comes as Democrats struggled to lose the White House and two Congresses in November. A book on Biden's 2024 run by Jake Tapper of CNN and Alex Thompson of Axios added criticism of the former president's decision to seek reelection despite concerns about his age and health.
In the summer of 2024, descriptions of Jean-Pierre's book jabs in the party's decision, which included "the Democratic betrayal that led Biden to withdraw from the presidential campaign.
“Until January 20, I was in charge of speaking on behalf of the President of the United States. At noon that day, I became a private citizen, and like all Americans and many of our allies, he had to compete with the next step in our country,” Jean-Pierre said in Legacy Lighting, a statement from Legacy Lit, which was part of Hatchette. “I am sure the danger we face as a country requires the release of our boxes. ”
A spokesman for the Democratic National Committee declined to comment on Jean-Pierre's departure from the party. A spokesperson for Biden’s personal office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Jean-Pierre appointed Jean-Pierre's press secretary in 2022 after former press secretary Jen Psaki left the White House to anchor MSNBC's performance. Jean-Pierre served as the White House top spokesperson for the rest of Biden's tenure. She was the first black woman and the first gay man to openly serve as White House press secretary.
Jean-Pierre has a long history of working for senior Democrats. Before Biden's White House, Jean-Pierre served as Chief of Staff for then-President nominee Kamala Harris. She also worked for Barack Obama during his presidential campaign.
Jean-Pierre said in a video posted to Instagram that she decided to "follow my own compass", urging people to "stop thinking" and "not so partisan".
Although the book’s subtitles describe “the broken White House,” Jean-Pierre has defended the administration during the press office’s helm, pushing journalists about the controversy and putting Biden as president “historic.”
"He has a historic presidency," Jean-Pierre said of Biden in the final press conference. "In one semester, he did more than most presidents did in both terms."
