Football stars fall into coma after collision in the middle of the game

Football star Taiwo Awoniyi was reportedly put in a coma after suffering a serious abdominal injury during the game.

According to the BBC, the 27-year-old Nigerian crashed while playing against Leicester City in the British Premier League on Sunday, May 11.

According to multiple media outlets including the BBC and Sky News, Awoniyi joined the game in a late alternative and received several minutes of treatment before he returned to the game.

In a statement posted on Instagram on Tuesday, May 13, Forest said Awoniyi suffered a "severe abdominal injury" and "recovered" after "emergency surgery."

The BBC reported that the player suffered a ruptured gut in the incident and had surgery for injuries on Monday, May 12. He plans to undergo further surgery on Wednesday, May 14, according to the store.

"The severity of his injury is a powerful reminder of physical risks in the game and why the health and well-being of the players always appear first," Forest continued in the statement.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is also very concerned about Awoniyi's situation, and he walked into the field midway.

"In the last ten minutes of the game, he became increasingly difficult to keep off the field when he clearly saw our players feeling uncomfortable and struggling in obvious pain," the Forest statement read.

“He was so upset that he saw our players lying on the ground in intense pain… triggered him to enter the court.”

The team also shared their frustration with the on-site medical team as he allowed Awoniyi to continue playing after his injury.

"The medical team should never let the players go on," the team wrote.

Forest added the Forest to a post on Tuesday X: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest sends her best wishes to Taiwan. The club will provide further updates in due course."

People have been exposed to the forest for further comment.
