Floridians are shot by representatives after crocodile attack, accused of using garden scissors

Florida Sheriff Grady Judd said deputies shot and killed a man who accused deputies of using garden cuts and trying to grab a gun from a patrol car, all of which was attacked by a crocodile while swimming on the lake.

Judd told reporters on Monday that Timothy Shultz, 42, was shot dead when threatened to injure the deputies earlier in the day.

Deputies responded to a man who was "weird" and "shaking" on the racetrack around 6 a.m. Monday, while requesting a call to his son.

When the deputies arrived, they searched for the man without success for about 40 minutes. Then, just before 7:45 a.m., a caller said there was a white man in the nearby lake filled with crocodiles and a crocodiles near the man. Judd said the caller told the operator that the man “must be drunk or high or something.”

Deputies learned that a witness tried to give the man, later known as lifeguard Shultz, although he would not accept it. Another witness tried to talk to Shultz but told the deputy that he roared at the witness, so they ran into the house and locked the door.

When the deputies arrived, they saw Schultz walk from the lake to an area between the houses while holding a set of garden cutters.

He also reportedly tried to break into the truck by throwing a brick into the vehicle.

Investigators spoke to a witness who was walking the dog at the time, who said the man charged the deputies while holding the cut.

Judd told reporters that the woman questioned why deputies had to wait for so long, but the sheriff said his deputies were trying to reduce the situation.

"We also tried to investigate him in two different situations and then he continued to sue them," Judd said, adding that the deputies backed down and told Schultz to throw the cut away.

Eventually, Schultz climbed onto the passenger side of the running patrol vehicle, Judd said. Schultz also allegedly tried to pick up a rifle or shotgun from his holder, and at that moment, deputies shot him and killed him several times.

"It's important to focus on a second: He tried to attack my rep with scissors," Judd said. "Then he jumped into their vehicle, which was an armed theft.

Judd told reporters that Schultz's criminal record was "very long", adding that he had multiple times of methamphetamine arrests. He also said Schultz was released on May 20.

“I’ve said it over and over again, I’ll continue to say: There are still people who want the community or the country to believe that drugs are low and non-violent,” he said. “Well, that’s your sign.”

Judd said Schultz was swimming on the lake and was very close to the crocodile and seemed to be bitten by the crocodile on his right arm.

"You know, it's true. You can't make up for that, so it's an example of how people use methamphetamine and use drugs," Judd said. "When you can swim on the lake, maintain a noticeable crocodile bite, grab the scissors, try to break into the vehicle, attack law enforcement, jump into the car, try to pick up the rifle and shotgun...you're not on the drug. It's not his first time. He's dead."

"Frankly, his behavior was outrageous...it's weird," the sheriff added. "By the way, our deputies are going home safely tonight."
