Watertown - Harrisburg has gained dominance on his way to winning the South Dakota Eastern Conference Boys Tennis Championship, in his third year.
The Tigers won five of six singles and all three doubles titles in a two-day match, which was held on Monday and Tuesday, May 12-13, 2025 at the Highlands and Belmont Park Court in Watertown.
Harrisburg easily leads nine teams with a 441.5 point lead. Aberdeen Central finished fifth with 123 and sixth in Watertown with 94.5.
"We ended up in sixth place, and that's where I think we could end up on seeds and double records for ESD schools," Watertown coach Ryan Zink said. "That was very hot and windy conditions, but I think the kids handled well."
Watertown is scheduled to play a double match at O'Gorman on Thursday, May 15, 2025. This will be the final move of the arrow, joining other ESD schools in the State University Class A Championships at Sioux Falls on Thursday, May 22, 2025 and Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Sioux Falls Lincoln won the final six single-tier state titles and then won the first four AA titles as the two-tier system was first used in 2021.
The Patriots may end the game. Zink believes Harrisburg beats and Rapid City Stevens, Yankton and Mitchell can compete for some titles on certain flights.
"We absolutely need to focus on being more aggressive in doubles and working on a consistent ground stroke," Sink said.
Harrisburg 441.5, Yankton 244.5, Mitchell 207.5, Brandon Valley 148, Aberdeen Center 123, Watertown 94.5, Huron 14, Brookings 9.5, Pierre 6.5.
Hartman was second and fifth, bringing efforts to the Arrows, who finished third in the fourth place in Xane Fligge.
Senior Sam Karst won the Consolation Championship in the 6th singles and Matthew Bertsch lost in the Consolation Championship in the 3rd singles.
Bertsch-Fligge (2nd doubles) and Karst-Hartman (3rd doubles) ranked fourth respectively.
"Dawson made it to the championship and lost to a very good Harrisburg player who played third last year," Sink said. "Xane ended up in third place. He made a comeback on Monday and was good again on Tuesday, with Sam finishing fifth in singles and finishing the game. ”
Carrera scored in the runner-up in the 4th singles, and the Golden Eagles ended the second day of the game.
AJ Prehn (1st), Dawson Pederson (3rd) and Mika Dannen (6th) ranked fourth in singles respectively. Mason Ligon won the comfort championship in the 2nd singles, while Aric Tennant lost the comfort championship in the 5th singles.
Prehn-Carrara (first place), Ligon-Pederson (no. 2) and Tennant-Dannen (no. 3) won the comfort championships in doubles respectively.
